The recent closure of a California oil refinery — and plans to shutter another in the near future — have some experts warning of potential fuel shortages and price spikes in Nevada and other Western states that depend on the Golden State.
California supplies roughly 88% of Nevada’s fuel, including diesel and jet fuel. But Phillips 66 closed a refinery in the Los Angeles area in October, and earlier this year, Valero submitted a notice that it plans to close a Bay Area refinery by April 2026. Combined, the two refineries produce 284,000 barrels of oil per day, about 17% of the state’s refining capacity.

We are also screwed in Arizona but have a nuke. Can we cut off the export of electricity?
This situation will change the political calculus against the Democratic Party. As fuel becomes scarce and prices skyrocket past $10 per gallon, the popularity of Democrat candidates will go rock bottom.
Instead they’re going to use synthetic fuels that rely on fossil fuels for their manufacture.
What’s stopping AZ from building its own refineries?
AZ and/or NV
Gotta few extra millions or billions laying around? You Too, can Start Your Own Refinery!
The problem with capital investment, planning likes to look ahead 5 and 10 years.
Does Arizona have any whack job Senators, Governor, or congress critters? Leftists make people with capital skeered. Business is tough by itself, no guarantees. Who is to say, Arizona won’t outlaw gasoline & diesel soon? The odds might be low, but the consequences are high. Why take the chance?
Arizona has no oil sources.
It’s much easier have Texas, California, and New Mexico refine the oil into gasoline and pipe it over.
Still waiting for that 12.0 magnitude earthquake.
The same reason the Sahara doesn’t have a lumbermill.
simply coastal access for importation, I imagine.
I looked this up. California supplies Nevada with 88% of its fuel, including 100% of Reno’s fuel, but only 33% of Arizona’s fuel. It’ll hurt, but Arizona will be able to grow its East-facing supplies. Nevada won’t be able to.
From your keyboard to God's ears.
The one obstacle in the above is the old adage:
It is not who counts the votes that matters. What is important is who counts the votes.
EVERY "election" in Kalifornia is 100% mail-in ballots. From dog catcher to Governor, State, local, Federal. There is "early voting" for 30 days before "election day." This early voting takes place in Ballot Drop Boxes. We call them Ballot Stuffing Boxes. There are dozen(s) of them in every small voting precinct.
Then, many elections are called 3 minutes after the polls close.
For any possible close races, there are weeks and weeks of Ballot counting after the election. Nancy Pelousy's daughter brags about her efforts. She traveled up and down Kalifornia. She called it ballot "curing."
Lol! If Yellowstone blows, you might see a 10 magnitude earthquake. Most of the USA will be covered in several feet of ash, while the West Coast survives.
Current predictions are that a big one (6.5 to 8.5) will hit California during the next two months, time to worry is January 8th during Sun solar flares hitting Earth while planets aligned on either side of Earth, and massive rainstorms dropping lots of water displacing fault crust zones. Also many flurries of small quakes in California over last month. If a big one hits, we'll survive (6.5 to 7 is nothing for us).
“the popularity of Democrat candidates will go rock bottom.”
Not gonna happen. They’ll blame “greedy oil companies”, Trump, and the Republicans. It will work with their braindead voter base.
You optimism is commendable but when have democrats hit rock bottom? Comrade Zho... Brad Johnson. Karen Bass. London Breed. They just keep reaching further down in to the cesspool to find more and worse odious candidates.
