Europe is at a ‘fork in the road’ between AI competition and climate, fund managers say

Europe stands at a crossroads: compete meaningfully in the AI race or stick to its world-leading climate goals.

“It’s like a fork in the road moment for Europe,” Wedbush Securities’ Dan Ives told CNBC. The bloc can either “play in the future” or risk “missing a big part of this technology wave.”

The dilemma is compounded by the region’s mandates for green energy.

Globally, energy is the biggest bottleneck for building out AI-related data center projects. While the U.S. fires up fossil-fuel plants to power its build-out, Europe requires developers to disclose energy and water efficiency measures, adding red tape that can slow project launches.

The European Union is often celebrated for its suite of agenda-setting environmental policies and how it has made strides with new mechanisms, such as the forthcoming carbon border tax. However, some critics argue it gets in the way of business. The continent is seen as “anti-entrepreneur,” Ives said, which pushes European technology names and startups to move to the U.S., Middle East, or Asia in pursuit of more favorable policies.

Ditch the AI nonsense and the carbon nonsense—and they’ll have the best of both worlds.

Funny how the supposed geniuses believe AI will destroy us all, yet we do it anyway.

AI Data Centers are going to vacuum up Electricity and Water. Better have extra of both on hand. Or, prices for both will skyrocket!

Cut the mind-numbing and freedom-stealing AI and have more electricity and water!

“There is no issue here. AI gets the resources its needs first. Anyone who complains about it is a luddite hater—and that means hate speech and that means they need to go to prison.”

This message brought to you by your friendly local AI.

Lol.

AI is not “mind numbing”.
Its mind expanding and world changing to make the world far better.
AI like Grok is not “freedom stealing”. Its mind liberating.
Electricity is expensive in Europe because they follow stupid “climate change” policies. Electricity was expensive in Europe long before the AI boom.
The Chinese with vast amounts of cheap energy from solar and nuclear etc and very rapid innovation will crush the Europeans in AI and manufacturing and almost everything else.
In fact they already are,

My wife and I have had more than one conversation about learning water collection. The chemistry for storage and being able to drink it is my main hurdle. But I wouldn't be surprised if in the near future we use collected water for gardening. And we already have decentralized solar to produce most of the electricity we consume.

Hmmm....try to compete in the modern world or keep sacrificing to Gaia and utterly destroy themselves but feel morally superior while doing so?

The Yurps will choose the latter - GUARANTEED.

“You have no clue.”

No?
Please tell us what you know about AI and about energy generation especially in Europe

Yours maybe, not mine.

I know a student who is just completed his first year at a four year university.

He took differential equations, Calculus 3, physics and chemistry. He had a 4.0 average for his very first semester.

His suitemates are freshmen engineers who both successfully completed their initial college semester.

Those poorly educated Freepers who so readily discount higher education are just foolishly ignorant of the reality. this new generation is going to be part of the teams that take us to Mars.

Luckily, I never took a class at Tech. They would make me pay for the class if I flunked it.

I would settle for making our cities livable again.

If we run away from problems that require uncomfortable solutions those problems will just follow us wherever we go.
