Large School Systems See Plummeting Foreign-Language Students Thanks To Immigration Enforcement
The Federalist ^ | 12/18/25 | Breccan F. Thies

The Trump administration’s focus on immigration enforcement across the country is alleviating the heavy burden of illegals diverting public services, as school systems are reporting significant drops in enrollment after having been overrun with countless migrants, many of whom do not speak English.

“One of the victims of Biden’s open border polices was America’s students whose schools became overcrowded[;] teachers, aides and resources, including for disabled students, were diverted to the millions of illegal aliens the Biden Administration flooded into our country,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin told The Federalist. “President Trump is putting our children, their education and their future first.

New York City saw enrollment fall by 2 percent over the past year, its steepest decline since the coronavirus pandemic.

As Chalkbeat put it, “A wave of immigration buoyed dozens of NYC schools. Now, their enrollment is plummeting.” That “wave of historic migration” accounted for tens of thousands of immigrants entering the city’s public schools in 2022.

However, many of the same schools that took on the most migrants saw the largest drops in enrollment. The 60 New York City schools that “likely took” the most migrants during Biden’s open border years lost 11 percent of their enrollment in 2025, erasing the gains from the border crisis years.

The fluctuations in enrollment parallel the flow of migrants into shelters in the city, which peaked at about 4,000 per week during the Biden administration and is now at around 100. New student enrollment is down 7 percent from the same time last year, according to the outlet, citing the education department.

More good news!

As more and more illegal aliens are deported, costs will continue to decrease. More housing and jobs will be available for American citizens.

Public schools are seeing declining enrollment, so what to the unions do, hire more and more teachers.

The Biden flood caused massive distortions that are only now beginning to surface, as the tide goes out, leaving all manner of damage and debris.

There is a dedicated federal grant program (Title III) that supports English learner education.

Recent annual Title III funding has been around $890 million nationwide.

Districts receive funds based on how many EL students they serve.

I’ll say that if immigration enforcement and deportations are maintained and escalated, we will witness an absolute renaissance in American culture. THIS is the lynch pin for a restoration of sanity.

We have a LONG way to go in my invaded city:

Fort Worth Independent School District Demographics:

Enrollment by Ethnicity

Hispanic/Latino: 46,446 (65%)
Black/African American: 13,823 (19.5%)
White: 7,875 (11.1%)
Asian: 1,231 (1.7%)
Two or more races: 1,393 (2%)
American Indian/Alaskan: 93 (0.1%)
Hawaiian/Pacific Islander: 42 (0.01%)

11% white. Who would send their kids there?

A good bellwether is any school that has soccer over football, basketball and baseball.

Next up will be these large school systems complaining that they are losing some federal funding because enrollment is down.

I have always resented paying for “educating” foreign students.

It is American students who lose out, having their educational dollars shunted off to fund ESL and other services for non-English speaking foreign students, i.e., illegals.

The needs of American students should come first, always.

Same here. For each language spoken, you have to have a different interpreter for the school if you really want to teach a student English. Most of the time though, they don’t really expect them to learn anything or complete any school work. They just want the body counts in the chairs so any school staff member will do as a baby sitter (good way for administrators to hire relatives).

Even a small number of non-English speaking illegal aliens can bust the budget of smaller school systems. That’s one reason our property taxes have skyrocketed.

From the article:

“Miami-Dade County, Florida, saw a massive drop in new students from other countries enrolling, dropping from around 14,000 in 2024 and about 20,000 in 2023 to just 2,550 in 2025. The plunge occurred in part because so many fewer people are crossing the border.

The decrease in enrollment has lowered the budget by about $70 million, and while school administrators might complain about less money in the school district, Americans should keep in mind that such funding is driven by people who are illegally accessing, overcrowding, and overburdening American public schools in the first place.”

Illegal immigration is an enormous unfunded mandate on local school districts. One day a student is placed in a classroom who doesn’t understand English.

Ditto for hospitals - which are required to treat anyone coming through their doors, including providing translations services. Imagine all the languages in California, including obscure Indian languages from Mexico.

AI is starting to take care of that, which should lower the cost.

My dear friend’s nephew was a hospital interpreter for years - laid off a couple of years ago, replaced by AI translation services. He went back to his original profession, Christian minister.
