HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) — The conservative candidate in Chile’s presidential election has won.

José Antonio Kast, a former lawmaker on the far right, defeated Jeannette Jara, a liberal ex-official of the current administration. Kast won in the Sunday runoff race with over 58% of the vote, a margin he reportedly said is like a "broad mandate” that carries a “tremendous responsibility.”

The “ journalist “ who penned this article was careful to characterize the conservative as “ far-right “.

Yet, his opponent was only “ liberal “.

And, the beat goes on.......

These conservatives in Chile and Argentina are basically Rand Paul libertarian types. Many here on FR slander their fellow members of the coalition for this.

I assume Jara is named after Victor Jara:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%ADctor_Jara

Víctor Lidio Jara Martínez (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈbiɣtoɾ ˈliðjo ˈxaɾa maɾˈtines]; 28 September 1932 – 16 September 1973)[1] was a Chilean teacher, theater director, poet, singer-songwriter and Communist[2] political activist. He developed Chilean theater by directing a broad array of works, ranging from locally produced plays to world classics, as well as the experimental work of playwrights such as Ann Jellicoe. He also played a pivotal role among neo-folkloric musicians who established the Nueva canción chilena (New Chilean Song) movement. This led to an uprising of new sounds in popular music during the administration of President Salvador Allende.

U2 referenced Jara in their song “One Tree Hill”

Hopefully Honduras follows, but their election seems to be a train wreck right now. The far left/communist candidate was soundly rejected, leaving a conservative and a center-left candidate. But it’s been two weeks, and the counting is progressing at a snail’s pace. The Trump endorsed conservative has had a 40,000 vote lead for over a week, but it seems the counting has all but stopped.

I know. I’m here. The CNE is scrutinizing 500,000 votes; that is the hold-up, but few think the outcome is going to be fair.

The far left wants chaos and riots so that the current government nullifies the election and stays in power.
