New records reveal details on the $1M in taxpayer-funded security upgrades at Gov. Josh Shapiro’s private residence

New records obtained by Spotlight PA show Pennsylvania is planning to spend just shy of $1.1 million in public dollars for security upgrades to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s private family home in the Philadelphia suburbs, including $311,000 for a new security system and nearly $290,000 for landscaping and other groundskeeping.

The upgrades, the Shapiro administration has said, were recommended by Pennsylvania State Police after a middle-of-the-night arson attack earlier this year on the state-owned mansion for the governor some 100 miles away in Harrisburg. Shapiro and his family were asleep inside at the time, but no one was injured.

since an arsonist almost killed him and his family a security upgrade was needed.

As for the landscape part, i assume this is about clearing shrubs etc for security purposes.
Robbers hide in bushes and nearby trees and both can be fire hazards.

Yes I know this is his private home but remember Nancy Pelosi’s private home lacked decent security system and the French doors had plenty of shrubs to hide the guy who broke in.

And there was a breach in the hammer detection system. It could recognize a claw hammer but the ball peen profile had been corrupted.

I would assume Shapiro gets to keep the added value to his property even after he leaves office, and that in addition to any kickbacks he might receive from the contractors.

Is this not why they have a Governor’s Mansion?

Hmmm my security cost less than $1000.
3 security cameras, motion detector lights outside and a shotgun.

“Hmmm my security cost less than $1000.”
Funny how costs explode when it’s someone else’s money.

$290K of taxpayer money for landscaping a private residence of an elected official. No need to identify which party this schmuck belongs to. Is there a democrat equivalent of the Yogi and Boo Boo team for this?

$1.1 million?

That could be less than we paid for private flights for Michelle Obama’s dog.

Gov Walz-MN will be doing the same, probably speed bumps in front of the Governor’s mansion to slow the people driving by yelling “Retard!” out the windows.

FYI - You can put the story link into GROK and it will produce an itemized list of the expenses. One of things that stuck out to me was the $131,157 paid for fencing upgrades. These are the people that tell us walls don’t work.

Don’t know how things operate there, but since he’s eyeing the White House, perhaps he’ll be out of office next year and then running for president.

The article points out that it is government-owned property (as are most governor's mansions across the country).

Oops, I needed to read more carefully — you’re correct; it’s his private home that will be upgraded.

I don’t have a problem with this. Elected officials of any faction need to be protected, combined with very severe punishment for those who physically threaten or harm them. Without that, we decend into chaos regardless of what party is involved.
