President Donald Trump on Friday celebrated his decision to permit U.S. automakers to manufacture so-called "tiny cars."

"I have just approved TINY CARS to be built in America. Manufacturers have long wanted to do this, just like they are so successfully built in other countries," Trump posted on Truth Social. "They can be propelled by gasoline, electric, or hybrid. These cars of the very near future are inexpensive, safe, fuel efficient and, quite simply, AMAZING!!! START BUILDING THEM NOW! Thank you to the DOJ and the Departments of Transportation and Environment."

So-called "tiny cars" are popular in Japan and other Asian countries and are typically designed for navigating narrower streets than traditionally sized vehicles.

Bring back a basic gas-powered truck without all the bells and whistles and consumers will flock to the product.

“Ford CEO hails Trump fuel standards reset as a ‘victory’ for affordability and common sense”

https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy/ford-ceo-hails-trump-fuel-standards-reset-victory-affordability-common-sense

“The CEO of Ford Motor Co. is revved up for the Trump administration’s plan to make automobiles affordable, as he expressed his praise for helping to bring car prices back down.

“What you should know is that this is a victory for affordability and common sense. As the president said, we will be able to offer more affordability on our popular models, and we’ll be able to launch new vehicles built in America that are more affordable because of this rule change,” Ford CEO Jim Farley said on “Fox & Friends” Thursday.

“Frankly, [the Corporate Average Fuel Economy] was totally out of touch with the market reality. We were forced to sell EVs and other vehicles. We’re not going back to gas-guzzlers,” he continued. “We have a lot of EVs and a lot of hybrids at Ford, but now”

Yes! Like those mini-trucks from Japan.

I would hope they’d be made from much thicker, heavier steel.

When I was a boy, the circus had tiny cars that could hold about 10 clowns or so.

We need inexpensive big cars that seat 8+ people. I’m going to buy an older Suburban/Yukon just to take the grand kids anywhere instead of doing multiple vehicles like we do now.

I see one of these things in traffic and I laugh. I don’t know. Like tiny houses, tiny cars seem to me to be a symbol of national decline.

Tiny Cars have the added financial benefit of serving as a casket after an accident. No need to extract bodies, just bury the crushed car.

This is what a free market looks like. We need presidential approval before the tiny cars can be manufactured.

/sarcasm

(This problem goes back decades, BTW)

Little cars for the “little people” but of course big vehicles for the affluent elites.

Another stupid idea just like the 50 year mortgage.

Bring back a basic car/truck with minimized extras that add 25% to the cost.

Like a Cruze or Cavalier. They are not exactly tiny, but they are not an SUV either.

Yes, a car without all the costly bells and whistles makes perfect sense. My 12 year old Honda Accord (reliable and very low maintenance) suits me fine.

Great news! This gets to use cases, and while I need a full size vehicle for long distance trips, camping, etc - about 90% of my daily driving needs are met with a 2-seater. Not true for everyone of course, but giving people the choice makes a lot of sense. If you don’t want it - don’t buy it. Just like EVs or 3500 pickups.
