A convicted cryptocurrency fraudster and his wife watched each other being tortured to death after kidnappers failed to gain access to their £380million fortune, according to Russian investigators.

Roman Novak and his wife Anna vanished on October 2 after being lured to the Hatta resort area, around 80 miles from Dubai, by criminals pretending to be potential investors.

Their mobile phones last pinged near the barren Hajar mountains on the border with Oman, where police later uncovered the couple's remains during a large-scale search across a 500-by-500-metre stretch of sand.

Russian media have revealed fresh details about what happened after the pair were abducted, saying the couple were tortured in front of each other as their captors tried to force access to their cryptocurrency wallets.

A crypto-currency fraudster ... that sounds like a fraud within a fraud, like those Russian dolls that open up to reveal more Russian dolls.

Maybe they never had 380 million dollars in a secret wallet, just stuffed into a mattress in Sochi. At 37 Comrade Stalin Boulevard, Unit 17A.

Oops, oh well.

380 million pounds? Nowadays that’s about 380 million dollars anyway.

L380,000,000 = $504,959,200. Me thinks they probably did not have it to begin with.

they probably knew giving them access would still have resulted in their deaths, but with the gangsters richer for it, and decided that since they were going to be killed anyway took the information to their graves.

No. According to the article, they gave them the info and the wallets were empty. Credit where it is due, a fraud to the end.

....... Yup ..... a Crypto wallet typically consists of a 12, 18, or 24-word recovery phrase. Get anything wrong At All .... Unless you have everything committed totally to memory ..... You will Never be able to get access. You will have lost all of that money ....

Agreed. The crooks could not have allowed them to live after that cause then they could ID them.

It certainly pays to keep a low profile when you have money and not let others know how much you have.
