OMG that is hilarious.
Another reason why our 1997 Silverado is such a sweet vehicle.
A beat up old Lada that gets you where you’re going is still better than a Porsche doing a great impression of a traffic bollard.

And from President Trump's son, Don Jr., as counterpoint to another Will Stewart article:
"I was actually in Monaco earlier this summer … and every other car there was an Italian supercar, like a Pagani, Bugatti, and they all had Ukraine plates … They didn't just all magically get $5 million supercars. They're stealing that money, and it's just one big corrupt scandal.”The theme then? Rich Russians? Rich Ukrainians? Rich?
The real theme? Automobiles with "connectivity" and EULAs and inhibiting electronics connected to satellites. My old, well-maintained Dodge RAM just doesn't care.....
Sounds cool until they do it to your vehicle for whatever reason.
I don’t care about rich russians but they will do this to Americans too at some point. All this spyware they put in cars should be made illegal
After my electrical “fun” with the Mercedes that I was stupid ehough to purchase a while back, I came to the conclusion that the “Spirit of Lucas” had descended on Germany. It appears that I was correct.
Ah, the Brave New World. At the rate we’re going, lead pencils are going to be connected and will spy on us from the desk drawer.
For our own good, of course.
Anyone remember “cash for clunkers”?
Can’t have those pesky non-brickable cars with people just going wherever they please.
I’d lean towards intentional shutoff too… but if Porsche always had this ability, why wait so long to do it?
“More reason to not get a car with external connectivity.”
Much less an EV.
You can be turned off, or be geofenced into a confined area of mobility. People who have and know how to train and breed horses may well be back in demand at some point in the future...
If Porsche is behind this, they are screwing themselves, royally, right in the bunghole.
I have a ‘22 718 GTS. The Cayman was set to be discontinued mainly because Porsxhe didn’t want incur the costs to upgrade to this tech.
If there’s any truth to the story all, they lost a very loyal customer. Many will feel the same.
“More reason to not get a car with external connectivity.”
Reminds me of voting machines with external connectivity. The only thing worse than not working is working wrong.
Anyone in Russia that can afford a Porsche should be tracked by satellite and that info provided to Ukraine special forces.
Gee, didn't they tell us that anybody who believed the remote system could be used like that was a far-right MAGA conspiracy theory nut?
I’m waiting for the time when warrants are issued for arrest and your car delivers you to the cops.
This is the same phenom as putting any core data out on a cloud. Or, allowing some clown-show power company to install a smart meter.
Keep core stuff under YOUR control. Do not depend upon contract terms — have you never heard that lawyers lie?
This could happen to us when the next democrat administration decides gas powered cars are no more.
I have a 2019 Sante Fe. Bad actors may be able to disable it, idk.
Will never buy anything newer.
