Tens of thousands of Afghans entered the US under special immigration protections following the US withdrawal from the country in 2021
Afghans living in the US have condemned Wednesday's "deeply tragic" deadly shooting attack in Washington DC, while stressing that the suspect - who moved to the US from Afghanistan four years ago - does not represent them.
The alleged gunman, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, entered America under a programme that offered special immigration protections to Afghans who worked with the US in the wake of the its troop withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in Wednesday's shooting, and a colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is said to be fighting for his life.
In response, US President Donald Trump has halted the processing of all immigration requests from Afghans, ordered a review of green cards issued to individuals from 19 countries, and threatened a wider crackdown on migrants from what he calls "third-world countries".
The Afghan Community Coalition of United States expressed its sympathy for families of the victims, calling for a "comprehensive investigation" but urging the US government not to delay or suspend Afghan immigration claims.
"Twenty years of Afghan-US partnership must not be forgotten," the coalition's statement said, nodding to the two-decade effort launched by the US in 2001 to overthrow Afghanistan's Taliban rulers and establish security in the country.
Afghans living in America told the BBC they had been horrified by the Washington DC attack, which they emphasised was the act of just one person.
Some spoke anonymously out of fear of reprisals by the Taliban, which took back control of Afghanistan following the US troop withdrawal in 2021.
One of the Afghans, who made his move after the US withdrawal, described Wednesday's incident as "deeply tragic". He noted the timing ahead of Thanksgiving, and amid a "highly charged political environment...

It is incredibly reckless to bring people into the U.S. who have not been properly vetted. Even worse, it’s disturbing that a man reportedly involved in a death squad was allowed to come here simply because of his affiliation with the CIA. I don’t believe that individuals from countries considered allies should automatically receive special privileges to immigrate to the United States. We made that mistake with certain culture that don’t assimilate , and we seem to keep repeating it.
This is why the Founding Fathers didn’t want us involved in foreign wars or deeply entangled in alliances that could drag us into conflict. Our ties with NATO and Israel can put us in danger. Bombing Iran on Israel’s behalf was unnecessary. No new conflicts, please.
It’s incredibly reckless to engage in voter fraud and vote fraud, thereby undermining the only reliable method for a vast number of people to live together in one nation without devolving into civil war.
But that doesn’t stop one political party from doing it to advance their hold on power.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE WORDS OF ANY MOSLEM!
MOSLEMS ARE TAUGHT TO LIE TO “INFIDELS” TO GAIN ADVANTAGE!
I can’t hear you.
I have sympathy for the majority of Afghans in the U.S. who came here after Bidens Blunder. One problem is that some of the fighters working with the U.S. troops in country would turn on our folks and start killing everyone around them - at least that is my perspective.
How can we trust any, when so many who were trusted went sudden jihadi?
Dear Afghans in the USA: If you don’t like these policies, start to police your own communities better, cooperate with LE, and get rid of the insane jihadists within them. A bit of Assimilation and Gratitude would be nice, too.
This country wasn’t meant to be the dumping ground for backwater stone-age cultures or people. Hard working, industrious, and intelligent people who want to participate in the fabric of American society, yes, third-world troglodytes with defective chromosomes and shoe-size IQ’s, no.
They can plea, cry, whine and eventually resort to the racist narrative all they want.
They’re all going to be vetted whether they like it or not.
And expelled if we see fit.
Christian kindness in America has been ABUSED for at least the last 75 years.
The CYCLE OF ABUSE has ended!
A lot of the ABUSERS are DEMOCRATS, not just illegal aliens and “refugees.”
They can’t behave themselves and must act like savages
GTFO!
Hyenas
LET'S TAKE A WALK THROUGH HISTORY.
Are we in American going to learn what not to do when we know the real history of Islam?
Every country in which political Islam takes power - the civilization collapses. This is history, not a political opinion.

Well BBC, your Mother Country effed up so bad that I am sure another 70,000 Afghanies would make no difference. You will have another 70,000 world citizens arriving in BBC’s Britain by Christmas. Merry Christmas, BBC!
Maybe they should issue a plea among themselves to do som self-vetting, and turn in all terrorists in their midst.
No.
Get out.
L
TOO BAD——GOODBYE
DO. NOT. CARE. Send them all back
Pleas to fall upon deaf ears I hope
