Trump says he wants to ‘permanently pause’ migration to the US from poorer countries

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump says he wants to “permanently pause migration” from poorer nations and is promising to seek to expel millions of immigrants from the United States by revoking their legal status. He is blaming immigrants for problems from crime to housing shortages as part of “social dysfunction” in America and demanding “REVERSE MIGRATION.”

His most severe social media post against immigration since returning to the Oval Office in January came after the shooting Wednesday of two National Guard members who were patrolling the streets of the nation’s capital under his orders. One died and the other is in critical condition.

A 29-year-old Afghan national who worked with the CIA during the Afghanistan War is facing charges. The suspect came to the U.S. as part of a program to resettle those who had helped American troops after U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Trump’s threat to stop immigration would be a serious blow to a nation that has long defined itself as welcoming immigrants.

Since the shooting not far from the White House, administration officials have pledged to reexamine millions of legal immigrants, building on a 10-month campaign to reduce the immigrant population. In a lengthy social media post late Thursday, the Republican president asserted that millions of people born outside the U.S. and now living in the country bore a large share of the blame for America’s societal ills.

“Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. “Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!”

Trump was elected on a promise to crack down on illegal migration, and raids and deportations undertaken by his administration have disrupted communities across the country...

And/or: Take the public charge laws (if they still exist) seriously.

"Wealthy countries gave us most of the entrepreneurs and scientists that made America a super power."

That was long before we became the welfare department for the whole of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Central and South America.

“cultures that do not assimilate.”

How to measure “assimilate”? Mexican immigrants tend to be conservative Catholics. Most Central American Catholics are much more liberal. The conservatives have left the Catholic church and are not Protestant, Mormon, Or ... Most speak, understand little or no English.

Nigerians speak, understand English. Most are Christian but in on broad range of liberal to conservative Christian.

Most Indians are Hindu or Muslim. Their assimilation skills vary greatly. Some have strong belief in right and wrong. Some seem to take flexible morality to very unAmerican lengths...but no different than some Americans.

Some Amish are Pennsylvania Dutch, speak a version of German and never assimilated in hundreds of years. When I moved to Chicago, most Poles, Ukranians, Slavs did not speak or understand English. They had to go to the Jewish merchant to translate as the Jewish merchants were always tri-lingual or more.

How do we measure assimilation?

“...Trump’s threat to stop immigration would be a serious blow to a nation that has long defined itself as welcoming immigrants...”

Wrong!! This nation was, indeed built with immigrants - legal immigrants. In fact, until a few years ago the word “immigrant” was defined a one who entered the country according to existing immigration laws and a “green card” was proof of it.

The shop lifters and criminals will not self deport. Much easier to do crime in United States.

An Indian mathematician invented the number zero. Einstein said with discovery of zero, there would not be digital computers. Roman numeric system has no zero number.

59% would be a darned good start.

"Our best estimate is that 59 percent of households headed by illegal immigrants, also called the undocumented, use at least one major (federal benefits) program."

I agree. And I’d add...no more asylum seekers of any sort.

Agreed. Or at least take asylum applications the old fashioned way. The applicant has to apply at our embassy or consulate within their country, then only after we approve they come. Stop letting them come here first and then ask for asylum.

Just finishing a week at Disney World with the fam.

Sorry to disappoint FR - no perverts, no brainwashing. Lots of mobility scooters and what Southwest Airlines now refers to as “people of size”. Many customers could easily star in “people of Walmart” videos, although they probably shop elsewhere.

Well designed cash extraction machinery.

Nice to get away with the whole family.

I think I recall having read that Australia has an arraignment regard asylum applicants that sounds really interesting. The arrangement is that if someone applies for asylum in Australia the application is considered with the applicant staying in another country. Then if the application is approved the applicant is allowed to move to a safe country in the Pacific....one of the small islands there (can't recall which)...and is then safe and out of danger. It's a country that they signed a treaty with and they pay that country a fee (annually IIRC) to help that small country support and assist the person in question.

So,the applicant is allowed to go to a safe country and Australia doesn't have to worry any more about him/her.

IMO we could make similar arrangements with some small Caribbean island nation.

Well…we can see where this had led us

Most of us will, suspect, eventually get to "Marius or Sulla" as a way out of the mess we are in - but this is a Constitution-loving website and for a lot of people, giving it up (because it has brought us to the state we are in) is going to be hard.

Officially China is a third world country, that’s why they pay a tiny fraction of the postage we would pay for shipments.

They can’t stick to we-so-poor and continue to import legions of spies into the USA.

They can’t pay full freight on shipments either.

Should be fun to watch their contortions...

That’s a good idea. Or we could possibly do something like that with a territory of ours.

Yes! it is about time Trump takes on the deep state and it’s attempt to overthrow the USA, by any means and every means. He has shown the power of our country to stop illegal migration, bam. He has shown he will blow up drug boats trying to poison another 300,000 of our young children. Bam.

Yes it is war and they are the enemy, and the focus has turned to the enemy from within, everywhere deep inside our culture.

And there are extant laws on the books, which it is up to the Executive Branch to faithfully execute.
