In early October, Canada's Liberal government kicked off it's long-delayed compensated confiscation efforts with a test run in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
The goal of the "buyback" effort is to take thousands of lawfully purchased semi-automatic firearms from their rightful owners. While the Liberal government has called the scheme "voluntary," anyone caught possessing one of the banned firearms after the government's amnesty period expires risks criminal charges.
Because of Canada's restrictive gun laws, the government had a list of about 200 "assault weapons" in the Cape Breton area, as well as the names of their owners. One official expressed confidence before the pilot program began that "the 200 will be collected through the pilot," but if not, "then we will have to discuss with the people who were contacted to understand better what is their intention to comply with the law before the end of the amnesty order."
Well, it looks like they've got a lot of discussions to schedule, because according to one local official the government didn't come close to getting 200 firearms.

Well, if the Canadian government knows of the existence of these guns, why don’t they incarcerate citizens until they forfeit the weapons?
Well, could be there are just an unusual amount of boating accidents in Canada.
Sorry. I forgot to tag ‘kaba, 2a’ etc. DOH!
First time I read that sentence I thought it said "incinerate".
More coffee...
When your own government is your worst enemy.
Well that’s the thing, isn’t it?
It won’t look good if some cops won’t want to arrest their friends, neighbors or family members.
Some gun owners might fight back like David Koresh’s Branch Davidians. How would the optics look? Will the whole countryside go up in arms? The government would lose by the numbers alone.
Also, Canadian gun rights advocates could use the groundswell of public opinion that such arrests in tiny Novia Scotia (just a underpopulated part of it) would cause towards disclosure and other Leftist wet dream lists.
Let’s not give the Canucks any ideas now!
Communists never learn!
Caint buy ‘em back if’n they werent youn in the first place.
The Canadian government is trying to get what Ayn Rand called “the sanction of the victim”, or at least the appearance of it.
Of course it can’t be a “buy back”. Its a reward for participating in voluntary gun confiscation.
Inventory your firearms and see which ones have a paper trail back to YOU and trade them off.
Wish I still had the ones I bought before the 1968 Gun control law went into effect.
“Today we begin to disarm the criminal and the careless and the insane. All of our people who are deeply concerned in this country about law and order should hail this day.”-— Lyndon Johnson signing the 1968 gun control act into law.
And Thomas J. Dodd, who wrote the 1968 gun control act using the 1938 Nazi Weapons Law as a pattern...
“No one can predict how many lives will be spared because of this bill, but, if the bloody record of our yesterdays is any measure, millions of future Americans will live to enjoy the promise of many peaceful tomorrows.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to play a part in this great moment in our time.”— Thomas J. Dodd on passage of the 1968 Gun control act.
Yeah, gca 68 has worked real good. Right?
Government buy back… most ridiculous thing; government gets $ from taxpayers, uses said $ to “buy” items of value, then destroys that value. All told, basically made the $ paid worthless (inflation) by destroying the value of what it bought. No different than sending everyone a $2,000 check… but sure makes the low information folks feel good.
"I'm sorry, constable, but our province is surrounded by water, eh?"
This is why we can never allow gun registration. It’s only use is as a step towards confiscation
As the ole saying goes! You can vote your way into communism but you will be shooting your way out!
Our DOJ just disagreed with you
