Plenty of Americans to fill these jobs.sickening how the republicans are pushing so hard on the 600,000 Chinese and not cancelling all the Indians. This may become the biggest betrayal of U.S. by Trump. If he actually supports, very bad sign. Hopefully just bad advice.

Cutting h1b and student visa scammers is an easy win for any party since very few people want them here.

But the donors love it. That’s who the republicans actually care about. Normal people annoy them.

Hard to make a call on this.

For years employers have warned a lot of skilled trades are retiring, and not enough younger folks are going into the skilled trades.
Ford CEO comes out and claims so many Ford jobs cannot be filled by US Citizens. On this one I say ramp up your apprentice system

I could go for several years of trained and experienced foreiners working, so long as we kick out the chinese students, to free up classrooms to teach and train US Citizens

The dirty little secret behind all this is based on a single number: $240,000.

That number roughly represents the share of the U.S. national debt that is being carried by each of the 163 million working Americans.

This means a married couple in this country is basically on the hook for a $480,000 mortgage. And that mortgage doesn’t even come with a house.

This country has an open-borders immigration policy because we need millions of people who think this is actually a good deal.

I think bringing in the foreign-born workers just shows the ineptness and lack of ambition of our own youth.

Today’s kids are coddled and told how great they are, so they don’t need to put in the effort for excellence. There are definitely exceptions to this, but I feel, for the most part today’s youth are lazy and unmotivated to be a boon to the workforce.

This does not pass the smell test. Show the receipts. AND, there is more talent overseas? Really?

H-1B is not a good thing and Trump makes a serious mistake, imho. Why train if a foreigner can take the jobs you’re training for and get paid less under the table NO MATTER the statements that say such things won’t happen.

Also, the language proficiency ratings from overseas are a joke. We all know that by speaking to foreigners on the telephone or even in person.

Good move: Trump announces a nationwide program to train more Americans in demand fields.

Bad move: Trump announces an expanded H-1B visa program.

Optics matter. Pick the wrong one, and much of the MAGA base will slip away.

Trump has introduced a massive $100,000 fee for H1 B's.
That will help weed out the garbage ones.
Plus of course America has to bring in the best AI programmers on the planet, whether from China or Europe or anywhere else.
China is now the strongest competitor to America in AI, if we can lure some of their best talent here, its great for America,
You can't just take the average American plumber or electrician and train him and he just becomes a world beating AI programmer.

H1B has been used for decades to undercut salaries for Americans and throw Americans out of work. Impose a fixed cost of $100k on the employer for each H1B visa granted and mandate that each H1B must make in the top 5% of professionals in that field - remove the economic incentive.

It's an easy fix, but we can't give as much to the campaigns of Mike Johnson and John Thune as Microsoft and Meta can, so it'll never happen.

Trump has forgotten who got him back to the dance when he did not stand a chance so once again he has forgotten the average person over the big donors... He did it his 1st term and now doing it again in his 2nd..He never learns.

A lot of what you claim is due to our corrupt 'educational' system.

Our work force used to be primarily straight White males (family men) but our current school system denigrates Whites and boys while praising and promoting all things not!

These boys, lacking motivation to have a job, home or family, become human middle-fingers to society.

I wasn’t sure, so I looked it up. That $100,000 H1-B fee is a one-time fee. So all an employer has to do is a little math. It would only take a few years of paying a foreigner less to recover that fee.

If that $100,000 fee were annual, it would be a huge incentive to hire Americans instead. And also to set up training programs here if need be.

I don’t much like letting in swarms of foreign workers and foreign students either——— but; our education system is more concerned with teaching social engineering bullshit than teaching STEM. If you put an immediate stop to H1-B visas, our tech companies will soon be unable to find qualified people to keep this country competitive-— if you halt foreign student visas to the top universities are there enough American students to fill those classes to keep the best instructors? The rot in our system didn’t start with big corporations and colleges preferring Indians and Chinese-— it started with you going to your school board complaining that your third grader was given too much homework, your neighbor complaining that the tests were too hard and his minority kid couldn’t pass them. Our education system has been turned to shit over a period of fifty years. Well, your chickens have come home to roost. We are losing our competitive edge because we think we are too damn good to have to compete. I don’t think Trump is the problem, I think the “average person” is the problem. You may find someone to vote for who will keep out the high performing foreigners, but the rest of the world is going to pass us up.

Certainly you are not calling Trump a Rhino, are you? Didn't FR post the story that our workers are too dumb to build missiles yet?
