After socialist Zohran Mamdani won last week’s New York mayoral race, an upstate city has gone one better by electing a full-blown communist.
Hannah Shvets, 20, a student organizer and member of the Communist Party USA, was elected to the Ithaca Common Council on Thursday in the Democratic stronghold’s Fifth Ward, which covers the western half of Cornell University’s campus in the city.
Shvets, a Democrat and Cornell sophomore, defeated independent candidate and former Democratic primary hopeful G.P. Zurenda after winning the endorsement of groups that include Ithaca branch of the Democratic Socialists of America and the Ithaca Tenants Union.
Among her ambitious pledges were raising the minimum wage to $25 an hour — just under the $30-an-hour figure promised by Mamdani — and adopting a just cause employment policy that would make it far harder for employers to fire workers without good reason.
Similar to Mamdani, she campaigned on protecting rent-stabilized tenants from eviction except on grounds allowed by law.

What IS the Ithaca Common Council? Like a City Council in normal cities but only part of the city adjoining Cornell? How convoluted is that?
Doesn’t this ring a bell to the residents of Ithaca? I don’t understand. Lived there in the ‘50’s, worked at Cornell but HOW did people get so stupid OR is it just the young idiots who don’t have an ounce of common sense. Member of the Communist Party? She doesn’t have a clue or SHAME????????
It gets harder to talk to old school mates there now and pretty soon it will be impossible. “Do you know what HE is doing to this country?” 3 guesses WHO HE is..I refuse to be sucked in and find a reason to end the call.

A local radio host played a speech by Gus Hall given when he was running for president in the 70s. His proposals were nearly 100% in line with what “progessives” are running on today.
Awaiting guesses of which worthless degree that idiot is pursuing. He/she/it will “community organize”, go into politics, and become rich while having no talent, no creativity, and proclaiming the evils of capitalism while benefiting from it. They will end life without ever having a real job. In a just world, such buttholes would have been launched into the sun to protect civilization.

Saw the headline and thought, “Ithaca?” Sure enough.
These are people I would not want in my own state of MARYLAND, let alone my until-recently-adopted state of Florida.
She sounds like she has a Jewish surname (but of course may not be Jewish, if her mother isn’t), which absolutely disgusts me as a Jew. On top of everything else, this Communist protested against Israel, which is par for the course for braindead lefttard Jews (or, more accurately, JINOs).
I cannot even express how much I utterly despise people like this - my paternal grandfather ran from Communist Russia when he was about her age, and I grew up on stories of how the Communists destroyed his family. Little did I know, until decades later, that his father was murdered by the NKVD in 1937, as a 74-year-old suffering from terminal cancer. These people know nothing of history, nothing of economics, and nothing of human nature (which drives economics and, as part of that, the technological development that has made virtually everyone’s life better). These evil little nihilistic retards would tear down all of Western Civilization because they have some severe psychological issues combined with sheer stupidity and an obsession with controlling everyone else.

Have a coworker that graduated from Cornell. You can guess his politics… we are slowly whittling away at him though.

Somebody remembered Gus Hall. He was the Communist Party USA presidential candidate on the ballot in 1972, 1976, 1980 and
1984.
What if Mamdani had been named “Gus”?
Or Ned. Or Norbert. Or Archibald Leach as Cary Grant was originally.
Notice that the Communist Party doesn’t run candidates anymore, they just endorse the Democratic Party candidate.

Folk singer Pete Seegar was defiant at the House Unamerican Activities Committee hearing with byplay such as Q: “Are you a Communist Party member?” A: “That’s not a good question. What you should be asking is....” Followed by the Fifth Amendment for some questions and no answer for others.

Rights for blacks. Rights and power for unions. Rights for women. Abortions. Restrictions on businesses hurting the climate. That’s all in the Democratic Party today. We don’t need the Communist Party any more.”
