‘Stop playing politics’: Democrats rip court-extended pause to SNAP funding

The latest court opinion will further delay funds to a program Democrats have demanded receive funding from another source as the government shutdown continues.

Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) also decried the pause, suggesting that Democrats would push back on the added delay to funding the program.

“Let’s be very clear,” Clark wrote on X, “Trump is making a choice not to feed hungry Americans. Democrats will be fighting back.”

“The Trump administration will go to any length — including appeal to the highest court in the land — if it means they can cut off food for hungry people,” Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said on X on Friday. “What is wrong with them?”

The White House referred a request for comment to the Office of Management and Budget. OMB did not immediately respond.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — which serves more than 40 million Americans — ran out of funds Nov. 1 due to the government shutdown. The Trump administration has continued to lock horns with Democratic governors and state leaders in a flurry of litigation seeking to resume funding SNAP.

The Department of Agriculture was slated to send out monthly allotments for November that are 65 percent of the typical maximum allotments, according to a memo the USDA sent to state agencies Wednesday. As of Saturday, it is unclear whether those allotments have been carried out as prescribed in the memo.

But Democratic state leaders have continued to urge the administration to tap into a separate Agriculture Department account, called Section 32, to renew funding to the program.

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey announced Friday that SNAP recipients in the Bay State could begin receiving their full benefits as early as Saturday. On Saturday morning, she said that the planned payments for families who went without earlier benefits...

‘Stop playing politics’ Democrats say

Too many levels of irony in that statement to count.

THERE ARE NOT 42 MILLION HUNGRY AMERICANS ON SNAP

55-58% OF THE SNAP RECIPIENTS ===ILLEGALS

THAT MEANS ABOUT 18 MILLION ARE “AMERICANS” & 24 MILLION ARE ILLEGALS.

THAT IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY.

“Trump is making a choice not to feed hungry Americans Mexicans. Democrats will be fighting back.”

Fixed. Mexicans, Nicaraguans, Salvadoreans, Venezuelans... are from the Americas. To Democrats, they are therefore "Americans."

Stop playing politics’ Democrats say

Democrats simplify their messages and attacks against Trump and republicans.

But, it should be very easy for republicans to point the finger at where the blame lies, and that's with the democrats.

Just use the simple numbers to point at who is keeping the government shut down.

Republicans have the majority and they have all voted to open the government. So, 50+ republicans have voted to keep it open or to open it again. To open the government, all that's required is a handful of democrats in the senate.

So, 53+ votes to open the government, and ALL democrats opposed.

Why is it so hard for republicans to use simple numbers to point out to the American people that, it's a democrat shutdown.

Democrats were able to take away from the republicans the issue of support for blacks, where historically, it was democrats who supported slavery, while it was republicans who ended slavery. So, here again, democrats are trying to convince the people that it is they who are working to keep the government going.

Republicans need to learn how to play hardball, and standing in front of cameras to give speeches about the shutdown, is not hardball.

SNAP shouldn’t exist in the first place.

This looks like a good opportunity to close down as much of it as possible.

So the Democrats believe a lower court has the ultimate say on what a POTUS must do.

If one of the courts order the mis-appropriation of funds based upon their order, the administration should indict the judge for mis-appropriation of funds which is a crime.

Judge isn’t responsible for misappropriation of funds, only the person(s) that executed his order to do so. Similar to the part in Animal House when Flounder is told...”you effed up, you trusted us”.
