Animal advocates say they’re seeing a disturbing increase in dogs being abused, neglected and even set on fire at homeless encampments across Los Angeles.

About two weeks ago, on Florence Avenue in South L.A., a 1-year-old Shepherd mix named Luke had been set on fire.

“It was intentional,” said Sandra Viveros with Compton Paw Patrol, a nonprofit dog rescue group. “It was done by the homeless people at the encampment. They set him on fire and he took off running [away from the encampment]. He went to some nearby homes, and he’s a smart boy, so I’m assuming he was asking for help.”

Shame if the homeless camp would spontaneously combust

Cruelty to animals enrages me. This behavior is a fairly accurate marker of an evil person.

Homeless people are often portrayed as gentle victims of a cruel world.

Some may be, many are not.

They tend to have a high number of predators and just plain bad people in the camps. Mostly because that is where the police do not go so it is easy to find victims.

I’m glad the dog survived. Shame if there were an accidental napalm drop on the encampment.

One president signed legislation to make animal cruelty a federal offense.
2019. Donald. J. Trump.

The Deep state media won’t tell you about that.

Animal rights activists? Those "beautiful" people? This, in of itself, shows PART of the larger problem.

Well worth a read ---

"What does utopia look like for mice and rats? According to a researcher who did most of his work in the 1950s through 1970s, it might include limitless food, multiple levels and secluded little condos. These were all part of John Calhoun's experiments to study the effects of population density on behavior. But what looked like rodent paradises at first quickly spiraled into out-of-control overcrowding, eventual population collapse and seemingly sinister behavior patterns."

< s n i p > "Eventually, several factors combined to doom the experiment. The beautiful ones’ chaste behavior lowered the birth rate. Meanwhile, out in the overcrowded common areas, the few remaining parents’ neglect increased infant mortality. These factors sent the mice society over a demographic cliff. Just over a month after population peaked, around day 600, according to Distillations magazine's Sam Kean, no baby mice were surviving more than a few days. The society plummeted toward extinction as the remaining adult mice were just 'hiding like hermits or grooming all day' before dying out, writes Kean."

This Old Experiment With Mice Led to Bleak Predictions for Humanity's Future Smithsonian, 26 February 2025, updated 8 August 2024

The Smithsonian article ends with an assertion, which I conclude is an error. Perhaps a "beautiful" error, but an error.

These homeless encampments need to be cleaned out and the bums put in jail where they belong. Newsome closed 4 state prisons and it wasn’t due to a drop in crime. I thought there was prison overcrowding?

At some point, America will change its stupid progressive/socialist outlook, and get fed-up with the streets being sewers because “woke politics.”

At that point (and as in the past) homeless will be arrested for vagrancy, and be sent to minimum security prisons away from the city, where they will work, be fed, have beds, and be kept away from drug dealers, etc...

That deterrent alone will be enough to keep 90% of homeless off the streets.

Dogs being neglected by homeless people??? The hell you say!

Am I supposed to believe they don't care if their dogs are infested with fleas? They don't care if their paws are getting burned by hot sidewalks and asphalt? I'm shocked. Shocked!

I had to look this up, and yes, Trump did sign such legislation.

Now I fully agree animal cruelty is wrong, and should be illegal. Where I differ is there is nothing in the Constitution discussing animal cruelty. My research indicates my beliefs are correct, in that this is an issue for the states to legislate.

Never thought about it, but I suppose being homeless means you don't have doors that lock or fences that keep critters out.

Outdoorsmen know you don't try to store food in your tent, it's asking for uninvited company. Raccoons, rats, mice, stray dogs and cats, roaches, even bears and coyotes. I suppose the same would apply to homeless camps.

The dog was just looking for a meal. and picked the wrong tent to scrounge in. JMHO
