Zohran Mamdani wins 2025 NYC mayoral election — wastes no time in declaring war on Trump in victory speech
NY Post ^ | November 04, 2025 | Craig McCarthy and Matt Troutman

New Yorkers elected their first socialist mayor Tuesday, handing far-left Democrat Zohran Mamdani a historic victory — as he claimed a mandate for his potentially budget-busting progressive agenda and all but declared war on President Trump.

The Associated Press and NY1 called the race for the 34-year-old Mamdani about 40 minutes after polls closed at 9 p.m., eliciting cheers from his supporters at his campaign’s Brooklyn watch party.

“New York, tonight you have delivered a mandate for change, a mandate for a new kind of politics, a mandate for a city that we can afford and a mandate for a government that delivers exactly that,” he said, taking the stage after 11 p.m.

He then taunted Trump, prompting cheers from the fired-up crowd.

A city you can afford? Thanks, Joe Biden!

Health care you can afford? Thanks, Obamacare!

Biden’s cumulative, sustained inflation is what is now killing the budgets of people in specific segments of the income distribution. If this message sold well in NYC, don’t assume it works elsewhere.

Republicans have tried and failed to modify or extinguish Obamacare. What you see today is largely what was passed in 2010. This is how Obama’s design plays out. And if there is crushing inflation in medical insurance premiums and curtailed coverage, it is a design feature, not a bug, in what the Democrats delivered in 2010, not something engineered by Republicans.

Disappointing election? Yes. But until I see the complete breakdown of the electorate in a few days, I will not make any conclusions. Polarization in politics is a positive phenomenon, and Trump is a highly polarizing figure. Thus, he wins. And these were odd-year, generally low-turnout contests. Not to say the GOP couldn’t have done a better job. But hold the phone on this being a turning point re: Trump.

Declaring war on the president is grounds for denaturalization.

You mean like when Trump won in 2024 and it was called in a couple of hours?

I still think these elections in these blue states are way overblown. Would there have been different outcomes with a different POTUS?
No. Blue is getting bluer and more radical in all their states. Doesn’t mean 26 is a lock for them.

” Doesn’t mean 26 is a lock for them.”

I hope you’re right, I fear you’re wrong. I’m in the blue part of Ohio, and it has become so blue that in my city, all seats had Dems running unopposed.

If the Dems take the House in 26, President Trump will be impeached as soon as they are sworn in.

Of course there’s not a court in the State of New York that would touch him. But don’t forget the DOJ!

This will be fun watching corrupt New York descend into the third-world depths of Gavinfornia. I won’t say “eat ***t, CA”, because that’s your fate no matter what is said.

This guy has never held a real job.

It is curious to me that the most vociferous people against capitalism are the ones that have never actually worked in it.

Obozo, Kennedy Family, this guy, many others. They are all leeches on the taxpayers dime and the taxpayers elect them over and over again. Then complain that their taxes are too high!.............................

Young people elected him. To them, 9/11 is ancient history. A 22 year old voter wasn’t even born when 9/11 happened. They have no idea................

I’d love to see Trump do like he’s done to other cities and essentially just push Mandami to curb and deploy the National Guard to patrol the streets.

Trump might be wise to deny the public attention he craves. Choke NYC of funds quietly, prosecute where the evidence leads, and let him destroy the town on his own. No need to give his an excuse or fodder for rousing his rabble.
