Florida already has a first time plate of $250

Yes, and when I moved down from Mass to Altamonte Springs, Fl, the police ran a monthly tag check on the access road to the apartment complex. They were nice about it and suggested "strongly" that the registration be transferred to Florida tout suite. I got a nice Challenger plate before they changed the design (for the worse).

Texas should welcome them to a free state. Instead, the escapees will go to Florida.

Either way...I can’t speak for Florida, but Texas’
cup has runneth over....try to get from DFW to Austin to San Antonio....unbelievable...oh...did I mention Houston?

In filthynois it’s $165 for title and $151 for license. $151 annual renewal thereafter.

“I saw a survey that said a million people would leave NYC if Mamdani was elected. If those million people voted against him he’d come in third.”

I think this number is a lot like actresses who threaten to move to Canada when Trump is elected. There may be some migration. But it will be much much smaller than 1,000,000 people.

bigbob: "It’s a joke"

And a hilarious joke at that!!!

How many of the Enemedia reporters will go apoplectic over what Gov. Abbott said?

Is there a contest going on among conservative Republicans as to who can mock and ridicule the Demonicrats the most?

An excellent plan. We have to remember that many of these people will have not voted for the commie, but as Thomas Jefferson said, “Better a hundred innocents are punished than one criminal goes free.” Oh, wait, that was Josef Stalin.

Not all of them. Liberals love to crap where they sleep. Then they leave and try to change where they’ve moved too.

A joke, of course, and a good one at that. However it does send a message to New Yorkians who consider leaving the nest that they've so obscenely fowled...

You are unwelcome in any "red" state. Please consider remaining in New Yorkistan and working to restore to former greatness.

(as if NY was ever "great", nyuk-nyuk.)

:: probably violates the Interstate Commerce Clause ::

Only if the SCOTUS says so.
And they will
But ... The beauty of ‘tariffs’ is that they can’t be passed on to the individual.
Tariffs are to be paid by the sovereignty (NYC/NYS).

In thought, it is a way to circumvent MadMan-i attempting to establish an exit tax on those who are fed up and moving.

Florida should follow suit, even if it will fail in SCOTUS.
As will any “exit tax” for the same reasons.

Abbot’s sentiments speak to the concerns always needed with folks from “blue” states moving to “red” states - how many bring their Dim political views with them.

I know a Texas resident who retired early to Austin Texas to get away from the high costs and high taxes in New York City. Did he vote over the years for the New York politicians that gave him the high costs and high taxes in New York city? Yes. Has his views changed since he moved to Austin? No. He’s even speaking favorably of a Mamdani victory in New York City.

Florida and Texas, beware of New York refugees, wanting the advantages you have but unwilling to abandon their Left-Liberal-Progressive New York views.

Funny how I ran into the same “exit tax” when I left CA in 2002.

Here’s a thought ... FedGov goes 100% 10th Amendmant and withdraws all shared tax revenue of the States.

What they take in, they get to spend.
No FED$$$, which, of course will be directed to FedGov items like bureaucracy and Military.

What could go wrong?

2020 Subabru Crosstrek: $125, depreciated from initial tag of $278.

Insurance (cheapo LibMu) is $1974/yr.

“””Texas to be the new financial center it seems. Logical move from NY. Y’all get it !”””

I agree. Also include Florida. When the price of stocks and bonds were determined by ‘open outcry’ on the floor of the New York Exchanges, New York City had financial power.

Today, upwards of 99% of stock, bond, futures, and commodity trading is conducted on the internet and a measly 1% of said trading is conducted by ‘open outcry’.

People who run the financial companies are not going to be bullied by the leftists in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago any longer. They will move their computers to safer states such as Texas and Florida and leave their disgruntled employees behind.
