Bill for death penalty for terrorists passes first reading

The Knesset’s National Security Committee, chaired by MK Tzvika Foghel, on Monday approved for a first reading the "Death Penalty for Terrorists" bill.

The bill stipulates that “a terrorist who murders an Israeli citizen out of racism or hostility toward a public, with the intent to harm the State of Israel or the revival of the Jewish people in its homeland, shall be sentenced to death, and to this punishment alone.”

Additionally, the proposal amends the law so that a death sentence could be imposed by a military court with a simple majority of judges, rather than a unanimous decision. The bill also prohibits reducing the sentence once it has been finalized.

In a closed session of the committee, Israel’s security establishment shifted its position on the bill. For the first time, representatives from the Shin Bet and other security agencies expressed principled support for advancing the legislation, reversing their longstanding opposition.

Security officials at the meeting emphasized that judges should still retain some discretion in deciding whether to impose the death penalty.

Brig. Gen. (res.) Gal Hirsch, Israel’s coordinator for hostages and missing persons, also voiced support for the law for the first time. He had previously opposed it, citing risks to hostages’ safety, but said the situation has changed now that all living hostages have been returned.

It’s about time, Israel! Now give your citizens the right to own and carry firearms. All of them.

sounds as useful as hate crime,

a person who murders, sounds like a good criteria to start with and end with.

If the terrorists are dead (rather than being held in prison) then there is less reason for terrorists to take hostages. There is no one to swap them for.

We should follow their lead apply it to ANTIFA, those involved in violent acts. All they are a communists mixed with anarchists and a different name. A pig with lipstick on you might say. And if they win this will likely be most of us on FR, our fate: IMG-1616

Death PENALTY??? It’s JUSTICE. It’s best delivered by the innocent victim against the perpetrator of the INJUSTICE whenever possible.

Wrap the bodies in pigskin, and hold onto them as hostages against good behavior. The families eschew terrorism and behave, they get their son back, and the pigskin is saved for the next terrorist. They step out of line, and the body’s thrown in the ocean, pigskin and all.

good, because otherwise they just take some hostages and you have to free all the terrorists later to continue their terrorizing.

Count on the Israeli left to fight this. They want to keep Israel weak and apologetic.

This is designed to disallow the use of any discretion on the part of the judge to give a more lenient sentence. Sounds pretty useful to me.

Every terrorist killer who is executed rather than imprisoned is one less killer who can be released in a prisoner exchange. If this policy had been in place earlier, there would have been no exchanges of murderers for hostages like we’ve seen in the most recent prisoner exchanges.
