Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a “food emergency” across the state Thursday as the federal government says SNAP benefits will run dry this weekend amid the federal shutdown.

“We’re not going to be passive observers to this,” Hochul said from a food pantry in Harlem.

The governor announced she would pump an additional $65 million in New York emergency food relief funds to keep benefits flowing after the freeze expected to begin Saturday.

That’s on top of $30 million she announced earlier this week.

Hochul said New York receives and distributes around $650 million per month for SNAP from the feds.

Maybe she should have thought about this BEFORE NY gave all that money to house and feed ILLEGALS.

ZERO SYMPATHY!

Seriously? In America people cannot feed themselves?

30+65/650 -> 3 days

Be aware the supermarkets will be emptied in one hour and not restocked.

‘Passive observers’ to what? the fact that her own party is holding SNAP hostage?

With Kathy Hochul’s firm grip on the wheel of the ship of state, the people who look up to her have nothing to fear. She will guide them through these churning waters. /S

Maybe she could send Muslim shock troops to Kansas to confiscate wheat from the Kulaks.

So, something that is supposed to be a small thing is so huge it can cause a State of Emergency. It is obviously too damned big!

Perhaps Governor Kathy could ask the two NY Senators to vote for the continuing resolution, thus avoiding the problem.

I’ll be willing to bet a vast majority of the people on food stamps and whatnot are perfectly able to work extra hours to at least cover part of the shortage. However, their entire life revolves around, never having to take responsibility in the government providing for them. It’s a generational thing for many.

Sounds like you need to add another $55,000,000.

As much tax as you rake in, it should be no problem.

Also, the Federal Government has no authority to give SNAP payments. 10th Amendment to the US Constitution.
