Judge in Oregon bars feds from halting grant funding for sex ed that involves gender identity

A federal judge in Eugene Monday night granted a preliminary injunction barring the federal government from halting grant funding for sex education programs that include references to gender identities.

U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken found the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services lacked any grounds to restrict such grant funding and said its new restrictions amounted to sex discrimination. The grants were authorized by Congress to support sex education programs intended to help reduce teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections and adolescent sexual risk behavior based on “medical and social science,” Aiken wrote.

Congress also stated the programs must be “culturally specific,” so there’s no grounds for states to remove gender identity references, she wrote in her 77-page ruling.

I don’t see how this logic meets the new Supreme Court guidance on preliminary injunctions. It will be overturned fairly quickly.

All the President has to do is write the “gender identity” curriculum.

“A curricula that denies the existence of transgender and gender diverse people is not medically accurate and complete,”

How can we have legitimate legal rulings based on lies?

Congress should be defunding this stuff. The House could be ramming bills through. End the filibuster and get it all signed into law before the midterms.

I don’t agree with the decision but I have a feeling the logic behind it involves a free speech issue, that is if the grant was approved prior to any restrictions. However there is nothing AFAIK requiring the government to grant sex-education grants at all so just scrapping any such grants would be the logical solution.

So banning “education” about the Chopadickoffame and Addadicktome operations is sex discrimination. Sure.

“Congress should be defunding this stuff.”

Completely shut down the phony Dept. of Education and ban ALL federal funding of education. Let counties, towns and states handle education. Then people can make their own informed choices about where to live.

Enough is enough.

Federal tax dollars shouldn’t be going to these type of programs in the first place. Cut off the spigot entirely. Tired of seeing my taxes supporting perverts’ agendas.

That is hilarious because that judge has nothing to do with Federal funding . Demand, cajole, insist away!

barring the federal government from halting grant funding for sex education programs that include references to gender identities. Aiken ...said its new restrictions amounted to sex discrimination.

Sex education is about sexually transmitted disease and pregnancy. How is the content modified for a biological male who identifies as female? Trans females (i.e. males) are gay or straight. The information about contraception would apply to them in the same way as gay or straight males who are not trans. The same for biological females who say they're males. They get pregnant or sexually transmitted diseases in exactly the same way as a "cisgender" female.

Sexual discrimination is about something being offered/provided only to one sex. Therefore, they are logically not victims of sexual discrimination if there are no references to gender identities in the content. The moron judge has to find some rationale to block this because it's the Trump administration's policy.

I am tired of my tax dollars going toward 90% of where it goes (like other countries, welfare, education (no business of the fed), subsides, EPA, R&D...).

They only need elite judges to impose their will. Everyone else must bow down to them.

I wonder where in the constitution it says that the federal government must fund certain political causes? I doubt they would find anything that requires funding for pro-life or Christian causes. For the left, any rights which require constitutional protection is entirely dependent on the specific content of those rights.
