A federal raid in New York City’s Chinatown targeting criminal activity tied to the sale of counterfeit goods turned chaotic Friday as protesters clashed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, prompting city officials to say they had no role in the operation.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News that ICE and federal partners conducted a "targeted, intelligence-driven enforcement operation" on Canal Street focused on criminal activity related to the sale of alleged counterfeit goods.
"During this law enforcement operation, rioters who were shouting obscenities, became violent and obstructed law enforcement duties, including blocking vehicles and assaulting law enforcement," McLaughlin wrote in a statement. "Already, one rioter has been arrested for assault on a federal officer."
During a news conference Tuesday night, Murad Awawdeh, vice president of advocacy at the New York Immigration Coalition, said between 15 and 40 vendors were arrested, and at least two locals were taken into custody for protesting and blocking their arrest efforts.
Socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani weighed in on X, calling the Manhattan raid "aggressive and reckless."
"Federal agents from ICE and HSI—some in military fatigues and masks—descended on Chinatown today in an aggressive and reckless raid on immigrant street vendors," Mamdani wrote in a post. "Once again, the Trump administration chooses authoritarian theatrics that create fear, not safety. It must stop."
Mamdani's office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for further comment.

The Republicans need to start calling them, “Anti-Government Extremists”.
I don’t think much “intelligence” was needed to know that counterfeit goods are sold in Chinatown. Its been notorious for that for at least 40 years.
Wow. Savannah Hernandez posted videos showing African migrants on Canal St last week. Tom Hamas sure acted quickly after those went viral.
Yeah, I had friends in the 1980s buy fake Rolexes on Canal to impress recruiters on Wall St.
Exactly.
“City officials quickly moved to distance themselves from the raid.”
of course: they were the ones being paid off to protect the illegal chinese who illegally sell counterfeit goods...
Obviously.
Hopefully, just like in the post Civil War South, Democrats will then be banned from politics.
A buddy of mine had two. You could tell the difference by the way the second hand moved. On the fakes the second hand paused briefly on each tick.
The reason he had two was because the guy on the street was selling them for TWO for $20. What a deal!
100% correct!
Wife’s uncle lives in NYC, would bring counterfeit stuff from there for the grand-nieces at Christmas. Everyone involved knew it wasn’t real Louis Vuitton or whatever.
Of all the things I despise about Communist China, it is their open embrace of industrial counterfeiting to use against their economic “allies” as a weapon that, next to their lack of human rights that rankles me very much.
I stumbled accidentally onto a website recently, and you know how that is when you see Chinese characters everywhere and no English, along with pictures of goods being sold. When I end up on websites like that, I want to clear my Internet cache immediately.)
What struck me, was that the site was selling all power tools, drills, sanders, and such. They all had that characteristic DeWalt look, yellow and black. (I prefer DeWalt myself)
But when I looked closer, they weren’t DeWalt tools. They looked exactly like them with the color scheme, and even said “DeWalt” on them, or so I thought.
When I looked closer, it said something like “DoWalt” or “DuWalt”. I should have taken a screen capture to post.
The CCP is a den of evil scumbags.
Bravo ICE!
NYPD 5th precinct sucks.
Up here in NH we have state liquor stores. They are large and sell booze at a large discount to other surrounding states. Comparable to the wholesale price.
The difference is that a bar/restaurant in MA has to show the MA tax label on the bottle.
Every once in awhile when visiting the large store down the street you will see Asian guys loading up a van with booze. Typically the van has MA plates. This liquor will most like end up in illegal gambling establishments underneath legit Chinese restaurants down in Boston. ie “winner, winner, chicken dinner”
When I first moved here to Nashua area there was a Chinese restaurant right down the street we used to frequent for their lunch buffet. This was back in the 1980s-90s.
I never knew until years later after it closed that they ran a gambling hall in the basement. Apparently, all the locals knew about it and all the Nashua cops hung out there when they got off duty. They probably got free drinks and a monthly envelope.
Double down on the arrests. Doing nothing will not make the leftists like us and the problem will grow.
One of my neighbors sells items at flea markets. She once bought a pallet from NYC full of designer goods.
When the TX sales tax police came through the flea market, they confiscated the entire pallet. It was all counterfeit and she lost quite a sum. Ended up getting probation for selling counterfeit goods.
Seriously, who really thinks that LV or Chanel is going to sell off last seasons goods at a discount?
I suspect that if the locals had been looking, they would have found.
Safety first!
Regarding ice protestors across the country, two words: live rounds.
I have personally seen those illegal counterfeit sales at the edge of Chinatown and Little Italy. It is clearly organized crime. Somebody didn’t pay their protection.
Two things: Sale of counterfeit goods is against the law. Second, were sales taxes collected and paid to the Overlords in NYC and Albany? If not, where the heck was “Tish” whilst this was going on? (it’s been going on for years..)
Oh, wait…
Where will I get my Faulex watches now?
