Of course its not, he knows this.

He is using them to force leverage and bring people to the table to get what he wants.

Tariffs were never the end game, ever.

It’s absolutely insane anyone thought they were.

I can’t get by the WSJ paywall - but my general question with any MSM outlet - did Trump really even say it?

Or did they take it out of context and twist his words? Or did some Trump underling say it instead? Or is it a complete fabrication?

Sadly, that’s how one must read the MSM media these days.

No Context, completely useless. Not sustainable for China? For The US, For the World? Kind of a pretty important detail, don’t you think? Who pays these writers?

They quoted two words with no context. Useless headline.

It’s sustainable by China. They are a solid dictatorship that is not about to let us tell them who they can trade with. They will find other trading partners, and their controlled media will blame any problems on Trump.

When the other party is starting to come along, Trump starts talking nice, when they waver, he starts talking mean. It’s not meant to be a body of consistent statements per se when it comes to analysis.

Bingo! It's all deal-making and his deals have brought at least $10 TRILLION of foreign direct investment to the USA.

What other trading partners on the order of The United States of America? There is no one and they know it. They will come to the table with hat in hand. They are a teetering house of cards that we all may live to see collapse. "Oh that'll never happen, they're so powerful...yada yada yada...".

I'm getting carpal tunnel from checking off all of the crap I was told my whole life would never happen...happening.

My take: Trump is saying China only respects strength so this brutal tariff hike is necessary to get China to the table for an eventual fair agreement, which he thinks will happen (they’re meeting in South Korea), but it’s nothing that can or will need to last for a long time.

All MSM is just clickbait and propaganda now. That’s why Trump embraced posting on Twitter from the start, and moved to his own social media outlet after they tried to cancel him.

While you second point is certainly correct, what other trading partners will they find? No one else has the disposable income that these US does to buy so much Chinese crap. The other big-population countries like India, Indonesia, Phillipines, China does their best to piss them off. Pakistan, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, Brasil, don't have the money to buy all the cheap crap. Some sure, but not to replace these US.
