'Painful' job cuts to come if shutdown drags on, warns Vance

US Vice-President JD Vance has warned of further workforce cuts in addition to the thousands of jobs already axed if the government shutdown is not resolved.

"The longer this goes on, the deeper the cuts are going to be," Vance told Fox News. "To be clear, some of these cuts are going to be painful."

Democrats said Republicans were punishing people by refusing to attach health insurance subsidies to the spending bill.

Hundreds of thousands of federal employees are already on leave without pay as the shutdown approaches its third week. No congressional vote is scheduled that could reopen the government.

The standoff began on 1 October after Democrats rejected a short-term funding bill. They want the budget to include an extension of federal subsidies for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

Its a clear warning. Multiple times.

However I would prefer less yapping about doing it, and more just doing it.

WHy am I certain there was a lot more demanded by the Democrats than that extension.

“Democrats said Republicans were punishing people by refusing to attach health insurance subsidies to the spending bill.” Give me an EFFING break!
Those subsidies are for Non-citizens.
Why should I pay for non-citizens to get better medical coverage than the average legal American?

Democrats digging for new votes as most Americans have gotten wise to their lies.
Trump has shown what can be done when you ignore
Democrat empires and Republican mini-kingdoms.
And we like it!

A fatal flaw on our side - too much talking and not enough doing, which the enemy knows and exploits.

Thought that was changing. Disappointing, but maybe they'll learn.

Don’t cave! The vast majority of people are doing just fine with the shutdown. And, they support it!

In fact, this far in, just forget the CR. Finish the budget bills and vote on them.

"...subsidies..."

GOPe slang for redistribution of wealth. Cut entire agencies not a few token employees. Kind of early to throw up on yourself, there are hundreds of them:

Start with 5,000 per day and add another 1,000 per day to that for each day the shutdown drags on. In a couple of weeks we’ll begin making real progress.

Think of all the union dues no longer flowing into Democrat coffers!

Democrat/Communists don’t give a $hi!, and they don’t back down. Note their mantra, “we would sooner see planes fall from the sky [than capitulate.]”

Just what would be involved in getting the government back to work other than reducing or eliminating Democrat paychecks? Can we safely say they are mainly the ones who caused this shutdown by demanding things that are completely inappropriate?

“ Democrats said Republicans were punishing people by refusing to attach health insurance subsidies to the spending bill.”

I’m sick of hearing this. The Covid subsidies don’t expire until December. The CR only goes to November. Every reasonable reporter should be pointing this out.

Not sure about the first part of your question. For the second I answer, YES.
