The Catalina Island Conservancy plans to eliminate some 2,000 nonnative deer using contracted hunters, after abandoning a controversial plan using helicopters. The conservancy says deer heighten wildfire risk by eating native vegetation. Conservationists say removing deer is crucial for protecting endemic species, while opponents call for alternatives such as expanded recreational hunting, relocation or sterilization.

Are the illegal alien deer
Build them a high-speed rail system back to the mainland.
That would be worth some more Hawaiian condos for the Democrats.
>>Are the illegal alien deer
Liberals seem to think they’re dear
IF THEY ARE EATING DOWN THE VEGETATION-—THAT WOULD BE LOWERING THE WILDFIRE FUEL.
HOW STUPID DO THEY THINK WE ARE?
ARE THEY GOING TO KILL THEM ALL?????
IF SO-—SANTA CATALINA ISLAND CAN TURN INTO MAUI-—AND BURN LIKE HELL.
A lot of mulies. Good Eats!
Venison: It’s what’s for dinner. It’s delicious too!
Retro hunting.
Deers increase fire risk by eating vegetation? If you want to eliminate the risk of fire, remove Democrats from elected office.
OK, now I know they're idiots that don't know squat about managing native vegetation.
I do.
Herbivory is a tool, and like any other tool, it can be misused or very useful. The biggest mistake these bureaucrats are making is to presume native vegetation is a self-optimizing system needing no human intervention. It is an immensely destructive belief having its origins in people who had no experience of how North American vegetation had taken shape prior to European invasion.
Very wealthy people have gardens out on one of the most beautiful islands in the USA. One way or another the deer are toast. IMHO.
I would expect CA to add a non native wolf pack to kill the deer.
What I see are Conservancy morons who are going to PAY contract hunters to remove deer instead of SELLING guided hunt to the interested public.
