Cumberland University cancels lecture with former MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd following death of Charlie Kirk

LEBANON, Tenn. (WSMV) - Former analyst and contributor for MSNBC, Matthew Dowd, will no longer be speaking at a Tennessee university next month.
Cumberland University released a statement regarding its upcoming Heifner-Martin Endowed Lecture Series, where Dowd was scheduled to be the guest speaker.
“As many have heard, former MSNBC Political contributor Matthew Dowd was scheduled to be this year’s speaker at the Heifner-Martin Endowed Lecture Series,” President Dr. Paul C. Stumb wrote. “This Lecture Series was created to foster civil discourse and engagement, and in the aftermath of Mr. Dowd’s recent comments, we have decided to cancel the lecture scheduled in October. We remain grateful to the families that support this endowed lecture series, and we plan to reschedule in the Spring 2026 semester with a new featured speaker.”
