The Brief
A midshipman was shot during a lockdown at the Naval Academy Thursday night. Officials say the incident was a false alarm sparked by a swatting-style threat. An investigation is underway as visitation remains closed and tensions run high.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A lockdown at the U.S. Naval Academy Thursday night sparked confusion and fear after reports of an active shooter led to a massive law enforcement response and one midshipman being shot and injured.
Officials now say the incident was a false alarm.
The lockdown began just after 5 p.m., when Naval Support Activity Annapolis and local police began clearing Bancroft Hall, the academy’s dormitory. Rumors spread that a midshipman who had been kicked off campus had returned with a weapon and was impersonating military police, knocking on doors.

I can’t tell who did the shooting.
Even SWAT can't just shoot the first person they see carrying a weapon on a military base!
Since the cadets are not allowed to possess firearms in their dorms, I’m betting it was the police who got got itchy fingers.
Any story said the shot midshipman was “sheltering in place” and an LEO came in to clear the room and the middy thought he was the shooter and attack him and got shot. Can’t say I blame the LEO. Their understanding was a middy was the shooter.
Statistics: In the US about 65 cops get killed each year by bad guys. That includes cops, sheriffs, Marshals and Forest Rangers.
About 1,000 innocent, unarmed people are killed by Law enforcement each year.
Shot in the confusion.... a made up excuse.
Says the policeman shot the man in self-defense.
Thanks for clarifying that.
So the police shot the dude who had been kicked out of the Academy?
Reading the article the cop and the Cadet whom it appears was defending himself from what he assumed was a poser and hit the cop are actions both rightfully engaged in. The one that needs to be put away solely is the one who made the threat. Both cop and cadet responded on information they were told and doing self defense.
No, they shot an innocent cadet who responding on an assumption a poser cop was the shooter and was checking rooms and when the cop came in the cadet assaulted the officer thinking he was the shooter. The cop shot him after the cadet defending himself hit the cop. In the mean time the perp who made the threats was not even in the building. It was a fake call or Swatting. Swatting is an act of making a false call for revenge call the cops for example and saying someone was killed next door to trigger a SWAT response to a specific location. Innocent people get killed from these stupid pranks. The cadet who was kicked out was likely not even on campus.
Reports of the shooting were a false alarm, but someone was shot? Fox is taking great efforts to not tell us what happened.
How sad
So who called the cops to begin with
No, here is a clearer story:
Let us pray for the cadet.
Definitely.
Thank you for clearing that up.
Strange story but that midshipman sounds like good officer material
