President Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order on Friday to rename the Department of Defense the "Department of War," a White House official told Reuters Thursday.
The order would authorize Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the Pentagon and subordinate officials to use "secondary titles" such as "Secretary of War," "Department of War" and "Deputy Secretary of War" in official correspondence, public communications and ceremonial contexts, according to a White House fact sheet.

HOORAY President Trump! It’s about time. In war and personal matters, a lethal offense is best so uncivilized subhumans don’t mess with you.
Agreed.
They are highly susceptible to symbolism and form over function.
A lot of people around the world aren’t that discerning.
And a LOT of the language has been used to justify massive expenditures for decades in the guise of DEFENSE. Who can be against a wonderful and powerful DEFENSE?
DEFENSE means something different than WAR. And that misdirection has been used to our detriment.
President Donald J. Trump has reached a peak approval rating of 55 percent, as reported by a new Daily Mail/J.L. Partners poll. Conducted from August 21 to September 1 with 867 registered voters, the survey reflects a six-point jump from July’s results, with a margin of error of 3.3 percent.James Johnson, co-founder of J.L. Partners, stated, “This is the highest approval figure we have ever shown for Donald Trump.”

Not The Bee?
Sometimes I think Trump sits back and thinks “what can I do that will really send the libs into orbit”.
Hey, Whiney69, take your virtue-signaling elsewhere!
Agree
Defense something that goes around the house on property line.
“...take your virtue-signaling elsewhere!”
Okay, where else but in a political board should my virtue be? The intent of the military, unless you are a killer like Hitler, Mussolini, Mao Zedong, Idi Amin Dada, Joseph Stalin, or in earlier times like Caesar, Giuseppe Maria Garibaldi, Genghis Khan, or any one of a number of dictators, they all had a few things in common. They wanted to control people and land and they didn’t care about how it was accomplished or how many people died to gain their power and wealth.
The US military is not designed, or set up, to be a warring business. We are set up to be a saving one with destruction as the last resort. We don’t go looking for fights but won’t back down from one either. And that is defense, not offense. Again, offense is the last resort, not the first. So why present a challenging view rather than a confident defensive one. We are not looking to go in and take over countries and people. So why create the portrayal of that?

“...but that is not its primary purpose as an instrument of national will.”
Readiness and power for intimidation is the first line of defense. Offense is the failure of being left alone to our own and not pushed into offense. Again, we didn’t start it, but we let them know we are prepared to finish it by our capacity, not our efforts to do so. We are not a warring country. We don’t attack other countries to take them over. We defend against warring countries.

He’s flooding the zone, making them play wack-a-mole so fast their heads are spinning.
Read Parkinson's Law.
One sign of a declining power is emphasis on symbolism and form over function.
The early British monarchs were crude but powerful. As the monarchy declined in power, it became increasingly layered with empty protocol and tradition.
Parkinson offers many examples of this phenomenon.
It was “Department of War” until after WWII.
I would support renaming it “Department of Ripping Our Enemies’ Heads Off and Shi++ing Down Their Necks” ... but that might be deemed “provocative” ...
I am familiar in the context of work expanding to fill the time allotted to it. That looks like a good book.

Well I appreciate your enthusiasm! :)
The Enemy Head Ripping Department might do? It’s a bit shorter.
It’s a tad less provocative - but still has some old school energy to it. :)
The Department of Defense results from the merger of the Department of War and the Department of the Navy, plus the creation of the Department of the Air Force.
The Restoration of the War Department should be combined with restoring the Navy Department to its former status.

Well let’s hope it goes that way.
Indeed, one of the best scenes from “Dr. Stragelove”.
“You can’t fight in here, this is the war room!”
