The Gallup survey found an increase of nearly 30 points in the second quarter of the year and is now at 46%.
The percentage of federal employees working in office in Washington, D.C., has significantly increased since President Trump's return-to-office order but still remains below 50%, according to a survey released Wednesday.
After Trump returned to office in 2025, his administration ended remote work for most federal employees. As a result, the number of federal employees working in a flexible hybrid work model plummeted from 61% in late 2024 to 28% in the latest data from the second quarter of this year, the Gallup survey also found.
In addition, the survey found an increase of nearly 30 points in the second quarter of the year and is now at 46%.
Nationwide, the percentage of remote-capable U.S. employees working in a hybrid work model has decreased from 55% to 51% over the past two quarters, also according to the survey.

Jeez, why can’t these federal employees drag themselves to their minimal effort jobs 5-days a week?
Cuz you can’t fire a preferred class without lawsuits.
I fully support any remote worker who refuses to go back to an office after that sh!t.
That was a different administrations decision. Do you support Illegal Immigration since that was also a decision the previous administration pushed on us?
WTH 46%? That is BS.
Then fire them.
Honestly I didn’t recall. I worked through the whole time period and luckily the Semi Conductor fabs I worked out didn’t require the Covid Jab either. During several early months our company paid an extra 25% for those of us willing to keep going in. I gobbled up all the Fab time I could manage from the guys who wanted to stay home and be scared.
FIRE THEM ALL NOW!
If you make those lazy slobs go back to the office for 40 hours a week, many of them will quit.
They are simply too lazy and spoiled to get up in the morning and commute to an office building. I refuse to use the word “workers” do describe these miserable Deep State bureaucrats.
The more of them unemployed, the better.
Always remember top never refer to most government employees as “workers”. It is an insult to those in society who do work hard daily.
Slackers, loafers, nitwits, disaffected-individuals, parasites and so forth all are more accurate and appropriate.
I worked for New York State. If they wanted you gone, whether you were Civil Service or not, you were gone, even if you had 25 years on the job. They would put together some drummed-up charges to get rid of you, and then find an amenable Judge to find in their favor at your disciplinary hearing. And you'd be denied a new hearing on appeal. If they really wanted you, they'd take out 10 other people in order to get to the person they were actually targeting. I saw it with my own eyes during my 25 year stint.
Any way to measure productivity? Number of reports produced? Number of .....?
Or productivity cannot be measured because they are not assigned to produce anything....just attend meetings and be counted?
More comfy to watch porn on the clock at their house then in an office......
Return to office is just plain stupid. Study after study has shown that “hybrid” teleworking is a benefit for the employer and employee. Actually forcing Federal workers back to offices in DC and around the country costs the taxpayer a heck of a lot more money than allowing those who are eligible to telework part time. Building maintenance, added security, transit subsidies, rents, equipment purchases etc were all taxpayer costs that dropped significantly during telework maximization but now those same costs are going through the roof. Productivity is decreasing, there is no upside to this other than some vindictive form of punishment targeted at Federal employees, that actually is biting the taxpayer in the rear instead. Vivek’s and Elon’s predictions of 60% of the Federal workforce quitting because of RTO were totally and embarrassingly wrong.
Return to Office is a fantastic idea for those who still think it is 1980.
“Always remember top never refer to most government employees as “workers”
LOL I always laugh when some Freepers says this. It makes no logical sense. If on one hand the government is a huge threat to us, how is it that none of their employees supposedly do any work ???? If the government is that powerful, it goes without saying that the employees must be working. Having worked in both the private sector (both as an employee and a business owner) and in the public sector, I can say that employees in both sectors are pretty much the same. Some are hard workers, some are borderline useless. Some are brilliant and some are…….well a lot less than brilliant. In Federal government, it is very difficult to progress beyond a GS-11 level unless you are fairly smart and actually do something. I hate to say it but there are a lot around here that probably could never even get to a GS-11 much less above it.
