I had a core nucleus of kids that wanted to play for my team every year… They signed up and requested me every year. My son is still friends with many of them, and they still call me “Coach” when they see me.
I had some parents that were difficult to deal with. Except for one or two instances, it was never the child always the parents who were difficult, and most mostly it was the mothers.
They didn’t like my coaching style, which was to treat the boys like boys who will one day be young men.
I remember one incident where I told a lady “if you don’t like the way I coach, put your kid on another team“; her son was about nine years old, a great little guy, and he burst into tears and said “mom look what you did…“
I felt like crap, but I don’t need that kind of garbage, especially for something I volunteered to do.
He looked completely scared
