St. Tammany Parish Council member Kathy Seiden has hired a Trump-affiliated pollster and is exploring a U.S. Senate run to join a growing field of candidates challenging Sen. Bill Cassidy.
"This is something we're taking very seriously and will be making an official announcement soon," Seiden, a Republican who is in her first term on the St. Tammany Parish Council, said in a statement Thursday. Seiden said she has hired pollster Adam Geller, who has worked on all three of President Donald Trump's campaigns, to look at the race.
Seiden would join a group of major GOP opponents to Cassidy, including state Sen. Blake Miguez of New Iberia, Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta of Metairie and state Treasurer John Fleming of Minden.
State Rep. Julie Emerson, a Republican from Carencro, also said on Thursday she was likely to challenge Cassidy if U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow decides not to.
.... Snip....
Cassidy has been seen as a vulnerable candidate after he voted to convict Trump for inciting a riot ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, but it is not clear if Trump will endorse a Cassidy challenger
Seiden is little over halfway through her first term on the St. Tammany Parish Council, where she chairs the council's Economic Development Committee and has worked on housing issues in the parish.
"I think people would like an option of someone they can relate to who understands what a normal family goes through every day," Seiden said in a statement.
Seiden and her husband, Daniel Seiden, a nuclear energy consultant, live in Mandeville and have four children.
Born in Hammond and raised in Port Allen, Seiden graduated from Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge, and has a bachelor of arts in communications from Louisiana State University.

Cassidy needs to go along with all of Mitch’s team.
Cassidy already has two opponents. Looks like it is the old Lindsay Graham strategy: get enough opponents to dilute the opposition and get back in.
YES prayers.
Have posted before: I have never called a congressional office until Senator Bill Cassidy blocked the confirmation of RFK Jr’s first choice to lead the CDC, Dave Weldon MD. His behavior towards MAHA has been nothing short of appalling and he appears to be far more knee deep into corrupt Big Pharma ties than Senators Collins or Murkowski.
I called Sen Cassidy’s state and DC office to express my disapproval and I’m not even from Louisiana.

I remember you discussing that yesterday on the other thread I made.
Cassidy has sold the Republicans down the river more than once.
Comments BUMP!
Yes the last minute and disgraceful rescinding of Dr. Dave Weldon’s appointment to lead the CDC saddened me and tainted the joy of Trump’s electoral victory otherwise.
Dr. Weldon is and remains a truly stand-up physician, was a stand-up and consistently pro-life Congressman for Florida, and it’s so unfair and fascist-like the way he and his professional legacy gets blacklisted as “anti-vax” when he clearly is NOT. (He regularly vaccinates his own patients.) But was one of the few to validate the safety concerns parents bad back in the 90s. (While most other US pediatricians chose and choose to gaslight instead.)
SO upsetting that it was mainly Republicans like Senator Cassidy who blocked his appointment.
This is not good. The more candidates, the more likely Cassidy wins. They need to choose one candidate to run against him. Paxton seems to be that person.
[vaccine] safety concerns parents had* back in the 90s.
Trump has to be strategic in who he gets behind and time the endorsement well.
You have to remember the turncoat Cassidy was a Democrat before switching to become a Republican.
Yes he definitely must. For a pretty deep red state, they can do much better than Cassidy.
Did not know that. And not surprised. 😒😒😒

Paxton? Ken Paxton is in Texas.
Sounds great to me!
That’s good enough for me.
Oh crap. You are right. I will have to get my act together. Bottom line is hopefully only one candidate runs against Cassidy.
The risk is so many challengers that they dilute the anti-Cassidy vote. Who’s the best one? How can they keep the numbers down?
Louisiana politics is brutal. It won’t take long to weed the weak candidates out against Cassidy. They’ll get behind the strongest one that can possibly take him down. A Trump endorsement would help to and send Cassidy packing. Trump hasn’t forgotten this guy voted to have him impeached.
