I guess it has paid off to avoid crowded places and not travel hardly anywhere especially overseas in the last 20 years. I did go to Manhattan on Christmas several years in a row (ex-wife’s annual bs thing) but my head was on a swivel and luckily nothing ever happened.

The pick pockets are usually gypsies and they are juveniles so they can avoid being prosecuted as the thieving family’s sticky fingers.
