Trump Proposes Expanding Concealed-Carry Rights to Washington, D.C. to Combat Rising Crime

During a Q&A session in the Oval Office on Friday, President Donald Trump reignited the national conversation on gun rights by proposing a bold expansion of concealed-carry laws to include Washington, D.C. Trump argued that residents of the nation’s capital must have the ability to protect themselves amid a surge in violent crime.

“People have to be able to protect themselves,” Trump said. “Especially in Washington, you walk down the street, a guy comes up and slugs you. He’s got a pistol in his hand. You can be tough, you can be powerful, or you can be a guy that weighs 100 pounds with a gun in your hand, and I’ll bet on the guy with the gun 100 percent of the time.”

The president underscored his commitment to the Second Amendment, stating, “I’m a Second Amendment person all the way.”

The proposal aligns with Trump’s broader agenda to restore law and order in America’s major cities. Earlier in 2025, he signed an executive order aimed at increasing law enforcement presence and speeding up concealed-carry permits in D.C. The order also established a task force to reduce bureaucratic delays, making it easier for law-abiding residents to exercise their constitutional rights without unnecessary hurdles.

The push for expanded concealed carry in the district comes amid recent shifts in local gun policy. Federal prosecutors announced they would no longer pursue felony charges for possessing rifles and shotguns, signaling a gradual move toward more permissive gun laws. Advocates argue that allowing everyday citizens to carry firearms legally has helped reduce crime in other parts of the country, making this expansion a sensible step for improving public safety.

Meanwhile, critics warn that loosening concealed-carry restrictions could lead to increased gun violence. However, President Trump dismissed these concerns, emphasizing that local governments should not restrict Second Amendment rights.

If the Republicans got behind this, the 2026 elections are in the bag. Just as Love vs. Virginia brought about change to inter-racial marriage throughout the United States, and the deviant LBGTQ groups hooked their claws onto this Supreme Court decision to have homosexual “marriage” legalized throughout the United States, the Republicans - or some legit pro 2nd Amendment group - needs to push to the Supreme Court, that a concealed carry permit in one state is to be recognized in every state, based on the precedent set by Love vs. Virginia.

The criminals already have this right.

I don’t want the Democrats to fight back. I want them to get what they voted to have.

In DC the criminals have guns. The honest law abiding citizens do not. Rarely do they use a weapon unlawfully. The criminals consistently use a weapon to commit crimes.

“I’m a Second Amendment person all the way.”

Lots of damn sleazeball politicians say that ... It means nothing ...

You want to be a Second Amendment person, prove it. Do something about it.

I would actually go there if I could CCW. I have a young teen family and they want to go very bad. I was there in the 90s and it was bad. Its terrible now. With CCW, I’d consider it again.

He’s a severe Second Amendment supporter, just like Willard Romney was a severe conservative.

In 1987, the gun control freaks were merely wrong.

Thirty Eight years later, with mountains of evidence against them, they’re liars.

The ATF should be a convenience store. Let 7-11 run it.

It would be easy to immediately declare that DC recognizes all other states CCW permits.

My son lives in Virginia and it took him 6 months to get his CC even with the highest security ranking you can get. If he wanted to know his status, he had to go in person to check. He said CC was tough to get in DC. One of his best friends was a SS agent and whenever they hung out, his buddy was always armed.

I’ve told the story about when he traveled, he was always armed. One time, he checked in with the airline, showed his paperwork and boarded the plane. A stewardess came up to him after he got seated and asked him if he was their armed SS agent. Said it pissed him off because he was planning on napping but it made him a target. They essentially had an air marshal onboard if there was any trouble but now people around him knew he was armed.

A solution to high crime in cities like Chicago, for example, is for the Federal Govt. to pay to TRAIN and arm Aunties, so that when punks and hoods go shooting around, the punks the hoods will likely get a cap in their ass, regardless of their “age” - if they’re carrying and acting a fool, then they are indeed fair game.
