A parolee with nearly two dozen arrests – including one just a day ago for fare evasion – shot and wounded an NYPD detective on a Queens expressway during the Friday morning rush, cops and sources said.
The detective — who is assigned to the department’s Queens North Warrants Squad — was shot in the leg and arm by the 28-year-old gunman around 8:50 a.m. on the Whitestone Expressway near 22nd Road in Whitestone, according to authorities and law enforcement sources.
The officer was rushed in a police vehicle to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he is conscious and alert with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting erupted when narcotics detectives heading back to their command after serving a warrant encountered the suspect trying to carjack and rob a TLC driver in a Toyota Sienna, the sources said.
A short time earlier, the same suspect had also attempted to carjack a woman, but was unsuccessful, according to the sources.
The gunman – who already has 21 arrests on his record – was taken into custody, according to the sources.
His name was not officially released, pending charges.
The alleged shooter was just paroled in March on attempted robbery charges from December of 2023 in Brooklyn, according to online state Department of Corrections records.
His parole is set to expire in October.
The young but seasoned criminal – known as a transit recidivist – was most recently arrested on Thursday for evading the subway fare, but he was cut loose with a desk appearance ticket because he was not wanted in connection to any other crimes at the time, the sources said.
He was set to appear in court on those charges on Sept. 9.

Tells me what I need to know.
No name or pic of the gunman.....Hummm.
Every detail of his background and previous crimes... but not his name or appearance. The willful ignorance is strong.
Hey, New York City. If you think it’s bad now, just wait until Zohran Mamdani gets into the mayor’s office.
And I feel really bad for the NYC police who are just trying to do their jobs. They have to deal with trash judges now. Combine that with a fanatic like Mamdani…
How the H*LL is someone like this still walking the streets??????????
Revolving door justice
Rudy Giuliani applied the “broken windows” theory to NYC policing. He was right. When you ignore the small crimes, you get the big crimes.

Parole. From the French for “ promise.” Apparently he’s a liar, too. Go figure.
I hope the detective sues everyone involved for a Billion dollars, if he survives.
How is he still alive? I doubt that he has too many friends, if any, and all criminals are his rivals. Someone will knock him off at some point.
Tender Loving Care driver?
Probably some company New Yorkers know but yeah that was my first thought as well.
