L.A. may land a new congressional seat. Is it already reserved?

As Gov. Gavin Newsom’s push to redraw California’s congressional maps plays out at the state Capitol and on the national stage, a quieter but no less bloody scramble is simultaneously underway.

Newsom’s plan — a bid to counter President Trump’s drive for more GOP House seats with his own California show of force — still needs to be approved by the state Legislature before voters decide its fate in November. But behind the scenes, consultants, lawmakers and would-be candidates already are jockeying for position in the newly competitive or vastly redrawn districts that may soon exist across the state.

As rumblings emerged that there probably would be a new southeast Los Angeles County congressional seat — later confirmed by the official maps released last week — political watchers braced for a full-on feeding frenzy. A fresh seat in a safe Democratic district can be a once-in-a-generation opportunity, particularly in a region crowded with ambitious politicians.

But a race that doesn’t even officially exist yet seems to already be practically tied up with a bow.

L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis hasn’t publicly announced her candidacy. But she’s made her intention to run for the redrawn 38th district clear within the close-knit world of California politics. And other would-be candidates appear to be staying out of the veteran politician’s way.

In the brass-knuckles world of southeast L.A. County politics, Solis, 67, has long been a starring player.

She previously served in Congress and the statehouse before becoming one of the five “little queens” holding the reins of the...

Once the illegals are removed from the census, California might actually lose seats.

Heaven knows it should.

What they meant to say is it’s already paid for.

The whole point is for Newsom’s choice cities (Los Angeles) to get extra seats at the expense of Bakersfield and others.

Getting rid of RINO Californians for conservative Texans will be a major win. They can take away California, the three Illinois, the one Maryland and the few New York seats. While we get Ohio, Florida, Missouri, and others. I’d like them to get rid of the blue dot in Nebraska. Pretty stupid for a red state to have.

the only way for LA to pick up a seat is for its districts to grab territory from neighboring suburban districts

these new districts and the old ones will be won by politicians from LA who supposedly represents both LA and the suburban areas included in the district

Can illegal aliens be retroactively removed from 2020 Census records? In censuses from 1850 to 1930, information was gathered on the person's birthplace, those of his parents, and whether he was a citizen or not. It would be difficult in retrospect to determine who was in the country illegally in those times. In those days, there were no green cards or work permits. As long as you were healthy and not from China or Japan, you could stay in the United States. Restrictions started with the immigration laws passed in the 1920s.

North LA County, seat CA-27, lost its GOP seat in 2024. It had been historically GOP most (but not all) of the time. Lots of blue collar workers and county/municipal workers, cops, nurses, and homemakers. It was a close race and a multi-100-millionaire outspent the incumbent who ran a great campaign for his first term and won handily. A redraw of Los Angeles could cause that particular seat to get closer back to GOP. NOTE: I haven’t seen the map. Just saying, playing with the lines may not always break they way you want especially with a voting base that is moving away.

It’s a drop-dead lock California will lose seats after the 2030 census, even if the courts hold that illegals still have to be counted.

CA is a criminal organization. Against state law for the legislature to redraw districts. The CA Supreme Court agrees to allow the law be broken.

RICO the whole state.
