Texas Republicans Poised to Pass New Redistricting Maps, Just as Trump Wanted
New York Times ^ | 8/20/25 | J. David Goodman

Posted on 08/20/2025 10:21:12 AM PDT by DallasBiff

Republicans in the Texas House were poised on Wednesday to approve an aggressively partisan redistricting, overcoming Democratic protests and delivering to President Trump the congressional map he called for, designed Republicans to pick up five U.S. House seats.

The redrawing of Texasโ€™s maps was only the first battle in what is likely to be a bruising and protracted coast-to-coast clash over redistricting between states led by Republican and those led Democrats over the coming months. The California legislature is expected to vote Thursday on a newly drawn congressional map designed to flip as many as five Republican-held seats to the Democrats, an exact counterweight to Wednesdayโ€™s vote in Texas.

Oh my, the NYT in panic.

How can California gerrymander more? They need the illegal Sikh Indian who can't speak English and got a CDL license, and is implicated for the deaths of 3 people in Florida for doing an illegal u-turn.

Keep up your LSD trip NYT.

What is rather entertaining... the proposed new districts actually more accurately divide up the state’s districts to fit voting areas than the previous districts. it actually removes past gerrymandering.

I don’t think the legislature’s vote is legal.

“Just as Trump wanted.”

Who wanted the maps in Illinois, New York, etc.? Did the NYT do a headline like that? New York had fairer maps in the prior election cycle in 2022, changed to wipe out GOP districts for 2024.

And how many Demonicrat Texas House members have been arrested, as Gov. Abbott promised he would do?!?

More Kabuki Theater by both sides.

15 months. That’s what we got to deal with this. I don’t think it will help Winsome Sears in November but you never know. A major victory or 2 will make them even more crazy.

This whole Dim meme - which the NySlimes is serving - is that the Texas GOP and their members and leaders would be doing nothing about the redistricting themselves, that’s all in the service of Trump. Lies, lies and damn lies.

Just as Trump wanted.

////////////////////////////////

Yeah NYT, Trump wanted it, as did most of Texas and most of the US, including myself.

Trump was merely agreeing and backing what the Texas Republicans had, on their own, already decided to do to correct the previous overreach forced by the Voting Rights Act of 1965. But of course never stand between the NYT and a chance to “blame” Trump with a negative slant placed on it.

These democrats and their media cohorts need to learn to suck it up because there will be more to come. We’re just getting going.

I am very sure they are simply following a gerrymandering model perfected by the democrats. I can not wait for the new census numbers.

How much did Trump actually have to do with this? Did he call Abbott and say he wanted redistricting? Maybe, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this claim was just media BS.

if you will recall Trump tried to have the census exclude the illegals last time and Roberts sided with the rats and ruled they must be included. As far as I know that is still in effect.

If President Trump did ask Governor Abbott to consider redistricting, Iโ€™m not following how that would be considered controversial. Gov. Newsome has stated he will do likewise, and probably will.

The big question for Texas is when Crockett loses her seat, will she dump her acquired ghetto talk, or return to the privileged private school voice.

I believe when Ahnold was governor, redistricting was done by a commission.

Actually, NY Slimes, Texas is now undoing the extreme gerrymandering done by Texas democrats. Nice try.
