The Texas House Democrats who abandoned their state in protest of the Republican-led redistricting effort will return home after Gov. Greg Abbott (R) took “emergency action” to begin removing the absent legislators as they refused to show up for work.
Multiple sources revealed the news to ABC13 on Tuesday, though the exact date the Democrats will return to the state capitol in Austin was not confirmed.
The state House had only 95 members present for the second day in a row on Tuesday, with Speaker Dustin Burrows (R) predicting that the session will end and a new one will start assuming there is no quorum on Friday, the outlet noted.
Senate Democrats did not break quorum, though they did storm out of the chamber in protest as their Republican counterparts passed the new redistricting map. …

What even was the point of it?
Just a tantrum?
>> though the exact date the Democrats will return to the state capitol in Austin was not confirmed.
Don’t let them play you, Abbott. Press on with removing that human excrement from the positions they abandoned, post haste.
>> What even was the point of it?
Deny a quorum to do business.
Have the handcuffs and leg irons ready when these Demonicrats are arrested as they exit the plane.
Probably just a temper tantrum. An effort to gain publicity, and make Rachel Maddow happy, so she could report on the alleged courage of these people.
Democrats tell us we have to save democracy and all of that.
I just can’t understand what sort of statement Democrats make, by abandoning their jobs as elected officials. They were elected through the democratic process they profess to love so much.
They love the democratic process so much, they do not want to serve in positions they have been elected to.
It was a Pyrrhic victory, because Governor Abbott is going to call a new special session when they get back.

They thought they could stay away til Nov 2026 to stop the redistricting but when the GOP said OK you want to stay away fine, you wont get paid, and Soros cant pay them for a year and a half they knew they were screwed
Abbot’s not going to give in. He has a majority in the state house and he’s going to get his way, it’s only a matter of time now.
-PJ
They’ll just do the same thing in the next 30 day session which will be called as soon as this one ends. Abbot’s already said as much.
Real profiles in courage. I’ve owned cheap suits that folded with more dignity
Hopefully all the punishment promised will be delivered onto them.
If the Democrats are back in the state, they will be held and forced to attend the session. Besides, their pay and daily per diem is being held and they can only retrieve it in person, so that's why they're coming back. That, and their staff budget was being cut by 30%.

They are obviously worry that the Governor will be able to replace them with his own picks if they don’t come back. Nothing else scares a RAT more than the fear of losing power. It is all they live for.
Thank God for governors like Gov. Abbott.
He called their bluff and didn’t put up with their shenanigans.
He took appropriate action instead of caving and using appeasement, which only encourages more and worse behavior next time. Appeasement NEVER WORKS. It only puts the other person in control.
Good move Gov Abbott. Thank you.
No. They thought they could manipulate the Republicans into caving and giving them what they want like usually happens.
Basically, it's a bunch of toddlers in adult bodies throwing temper tantrums to manipulate others and usually getting what they want.
But thank God, this time it did not work.
They were fundraising off it. That came to a quick end.
That “Friday” deadline was 5 days ago... I wonder if a type of “prodigal son” scenario is going to be played out. If I were a Texan I certainly would ask that question and would desire Abbott to follow through with the firings and removal.
