Republican-led states are leading the charge to ban soda and candy from their food stamp programs, as Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) movement flips traditional partisanship on its head.
Colorado is the only blue state to seek and have a soda ban waiver approved, and the only waiver state to propose expanding SNAP benefits in conjunction with limiting its scope.
Both parties at times have expressed interest in eliminating soda from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), but the Trump administration is the first to encourage states to do so.

NUKE UNCONSTITUTIONAL FEDERAL GOV'T "HEALTHCARE" AKA POWER AND MONEY GRAB!!!!
I’m fine with it.
Also get rid of convenience foods from food stamp programs. The alternatives are much cheaper and more healthful.
You’d rather have the junk food companies make money off the tax payer?
How about banning the food stamp program? The Bible says that if you don’t work, you don’t eat.
It is about public assistance for poor nutrition food or drink at expense of the government.
This was the way it was in Texas once before.
Wrong. They are free to eat and drink as they like. It’s just that we aren’t going to pay for it anymore. You’re using Democrat logic here. Like in the debate about art. Not funding dirty art isn’t censorship, for example.
It’s been a long ride since Sarah Palin defiantly hoisted her Super-Big Gulp soda, virtually in New York Mayor (Nanny) Bloomberg’s face. The year was 2013. The place was onstage, during her speech at CPAC. The zeitgeist of the GOP is never a static thing.

Program needs a complete overhaul.
At the very minimum, restrict the foods available to essentials only: milk, eggs, cheese, bread, cereal, flour, beans, rice… It infuriates me when the person ahead of me in the grocery checkout piles on the lobster tail and NY Strips, then “pays” with a SNAP EBT card.
OR
“Pays” for a pallet of bottled water, then dumps out the water and returns the empty bottles for the $.10/bottle deposit return.
Quite.
So am I.
Correct.
I’m with you on this one.
anything with a deposit return should not be on the ebt
Nah. It’s the proverbial camel’s nose in the tent. Eventually leftists will be in office. Do you want them to tell you what you can or can’t eat?
In other words when the public is paying for your food you have to expect the public will have a say in what you may buy with the money they are giving you.
I personally am for a slightly amended WIC list of things you may buy with public funds.
But it is very funny how people get all in a tizzy about how you will no longer be able to buy pop with food stamps and totally ignore all the other things that are currently forbidden to be bought with food stamps (like any hot food) and the far greater restrictions on what you can buy with WIC.
Brilliant. It will force certain segments to move to more permissive blue states.
