In some marriages it’s a competition on who feels the most “disrespected”.

Elaine Benes (Seinfeld TV show) got into trouble for this. She hears her boyfriend is in hospital, buys Jujyfruits at concession stand then goes to visit.

I don't always stop for a beer after I shoot my wife, but when I do, it's Colt 45.

Seriously, that’s how life works with many battered relationships.
This story is much different, but I hauled a major drunk to the dry out tank for rehab. This was something he really wanted to do, which was to stop drinking. After dropping him off at the hospital I told his wife. Who promptly got in her car and got him out of the hospital.
So of course he went back to being a major drunk, chasing other women, going home late or not at all. Doing the things drunks typically do.
So yes, this clown that shot his old lady will likely be taken back by her. Next time could be fatal.
