Netanyahu to propose full reoccupation of Gaza, Israeli media report

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to propose fully reoccupying the Gaza Strip when he meets his security cabinet, Israeli media say.

"The die has been cast. We're going for the full conquest of the Gaza Strip – and defeating Hamas," local journalists quote a senior official saying.

Responding to reports that the army chief and other military leaders oppose the plan, the unnamed official said: "If that doesn't work for the chief of staff, he should resign."

The families of hostages fear such plans could endanger their loved ones, with 20 out of 50 believed to be alive in Gaza, while polls suggest three in four Israelis instead favour a ceasefire deal to return them.

Many of Israel's close allies would also condemn such a move as they push for an end to the war and action to alleviate a humanitarian crisis.

Within Israel, hundreds of retired Israeli security officials, including former heads of intelligence agencies, issued a joint letter to US President Donald Trump on Monday, calling for him to pressure Netanyahu to end the war.

Who could have ever predicted this?

Uh, “from the river to the sea!” Anticipated this? Perhaps 50/50 chance. Over history, most wars end either in stalemate or conquest. Peace agreements absent surrender are built on shifting sand.

I hope Israel follows through with this. It’s overdue. No peace until Hamas and its supporters are crushed.

I’m referring to the fact that as soon as the wholesale destruction of Gaza started being implemented (probably around December of 24), I and many others predicted this was going to be the goal. It wasn’t about the hostages. It wasn’t about Hamas. It was about ethnically cleansing the Gaza strip.

Next up, the West Bank. They’ll create a justification.

Hamas created the justification. There would be no hostages without Hamas.

FR is out of step on this subject. I dont know why but support is very high for Netanyahu and his policies here

Maybe it’s just the way it is but my generation is a lot more critical.

For example see Rep. MTG who is threatening to leave the GOP now.

I wonder if Lurker will weigh in on this news..

Israel gave up Gaza for the promise of peace. Since no peace was delivered by the Hiter-loving Palestinians, the deal is nullified.

Might as well. No matter what Israel does, they lose in the deranged court of world opinion. So they might as well do the most extreme thing possible.

I make no comment about whether this should be done. I just want to say Russia might think they are justified as Israel.

Deranged is a strong word.... 😂

There are many Israeli’s against these policies and they’re protesting non-stop. Everyone has a voice.

It’s curious for sure...

*************************************

When the army and intelligence chiefs are all against this you have to ask yourself why. These aren’t leftists or peaceniks saying this. 3/4 of Israelis want to end this but Netanyahu is determined to carry on. Seems Netanyahu is doing this for personal reasons (to avoid prosecution on corruption charges) rather than doing what is best for Israel.

Meanwhile, Turkey has occupied Northern Cyprus for 50 years now. Nobody says anything about that, do they?

FR is out of step on this subject.

Fundamental truths are always true. The fundamental truth here is that the Israelis offered peace for the last 60 years and the ‘palistinians’ have forever rejected that opportunity for peace. When you say ‘this subject’, you mean your opinion.

I dont know why but support is very high for Netanyahu and his policies here

Maybe because, like Trump, he understands how to protect his nation and people first.

Maybe it’s just the way it is but my generation is…

Ignorant of history? Or just naive from enjoying the plush life created at the expense of the generations before you who sacrificed all for their nation and future generations.

I actually mistyped that post you are referring to. It was December of 2023 that they started the wholesale destruction of Gaza.

Also during that time, many leaders in UN-Israel-1948 were calling for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza....

https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2023-11-14/ty-article/israeli-mks-publish-plan-to-transfer-gazans-to-europe-to-alleviate-humanitarian-crisis/0000018b-ce7c-d168-a3ef-dffeed320000

How did they know back in November of 2023 they wouldn’t be able to get the hostages back through force or negotiation?

It’s almost as if ethnically cleansing the Gazans and acquiring control of the land was the primary plan and had nothing to do with the return of the hostages.

I can understand how, if someone wasn’t paying attention to this and only recently heard of Netanyahu proposing this, they could believe that UN-Isreal-1948 was forced into this action after the protracted conflict and lack of success freeing the hostages. But once one learns that they have been calling for this since day one, it becomes clear it has nothing to do with the hostages.

If they find a justification for ethnically cleansing the West Bank in the next couple years, will you be able to see that these aren’t decisions being made in real time to solve one threat or another? This has been a strategy going back to the 1990’s to 1st overthrow and destabilize the hostile regimes in the region and once that was completed to ethnically cleanse the land so that the borders of UN-Israel-1948 matched the borders of historical Israel?

There are internal politics in play here. Netanyahu is only the PM this time because of a coalition that would make even FR blush.
