LACEY, Wash. - A verdict has been reached in the trial of a Lacey father and mother accused in an attempted "honor killing" of their own teenage daughter.
A jury found 44-year-old Ihsan Ali not guilty of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. However, Ali was found guilty of second-degree and fourth-degree assault, and unlawful imprisonment.
The backstory:
Ali was captured on video appearing to choke his 17-year-old daughter on the ground outside Timberline High School in October 2024. The assault happened after the teen ran away from home, claiming her parents planned to forcefully send her to Iraq to marry an older man.
Multiple witnesses of the attack described seeing the daughter's eyes roll back as her father placed her in a choke hold. The victim's 16-year-old boyfriend attempted to intervene and was allegedly punched by the father, with another bystander eventually able to get the daughter to break away, according to court documents.
The victim's mother, 40-year-old Zahraa Ali, was found guilty of violating a protective order, but not guilty of second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault and second-degree burglary.
The mother was accused of attacking her daughter in a similar manner, and was also present during the attack. Court documents state the daughter previously reported abuse by both her father and mother prior to the incident.

So that’s not attempted murder in Washington state.
Kinda hard to figure that one out. Because choking is not like a punch. When you choke someone, you mean to kill them.
This is what people are celebrating when they say “celebrate diversity” and “diversity is our strength”.
I can’t understand a cult that would require you to kill your own child, regardless of the infraction. The religion of peace, my a$$.
Looking at the video and hearing eye witnesses, how could they NOT be fully guilty?

Shariah law is about as anti-woman as you can get. Honor killings. Treating wives as property, etc. There have even been rulings that it’s okay to beat your wife as long as the rod is less than a certain diameter. Golf club, okay. Baseball bat, not okay.
Every women’s rights organization in the world should be outraged by this. But of course they are not.
And they either don’t know or care. I’d say it’s both.

A long time ago, I was scheduled to go to Afghanistan as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I was ‘deselected’ the day before the group left, a very lucky thing as it turned out..
During training we learned all about Afghan culture. The current king was Mohammed Zahir Shah and Afghans in the countryside were incensed that he outlawed the killing of daughters. Fathers could still have troublesome daughters arrested and locked up, but killing them a bit too much.
The king was overthrown and whatever progress he tried to bring to his nation was overthrown as well.
I’m with you on that. It was horrific and all caught on video and pictures. But G-d forbid you mention it was the followers of the ROP ...you’d be accused of being Islamophobic.
Jury was not permitted to hear of any concerns about honor killing or arranged marriage. Not a peep. The closest it came to the truth was that she did not want to go to Iraq that very day, on a one-way ticket. So her motive for running from her parents was not to be mentioned beyond her “not feeling safe” in Iraq.
Also, the parents did not want her to date an American boy (African-American at that, not a favorite ethnicity of the average muslim). She was getting close to age 18 (she is now 18) so her parents were probably feeling pressure to arrange her life while they still could.
The judge didn’t want to “prejudice” the jury or give them details that might “confuse” them. When these jurors get home and start reading the background of the story, they will be angry. Or they should be.
My contempt for these people is difficult to express. Particularly the judge, Christine Schaller, who framed the case to favor the parents.
The victim got a better deal in Wash. State than in Baghdad...but the similarities are there. Thumb on scales.
Victim will be looking over her shoulder for a while, but the judge and jurors won’t be looking over theirs.
Let me quess. Was the jury made up only of “peers” of the parents?
