Arkansas police searching for murderer who killed couple at Devil's Den, cops didn't alert public of double homicide for 6 hours

The desperate hunt for the murderer who killed a married couple in front of their young daughters at Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas was stepped up Monday — as cops also scrambled to justify taking six hours to alert the public that a double killer was on the run.

Calls first came in at 2:30 p.m. that there was a potential assault in the eerily named state park — with first responders then hearing screams, according to 5News.

By the time they caught up to the family, it was too late, and parents Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, were found dead, officials said.

They were attacked in front of their two daughters — ages 7 and 9 — who were found safe and uninjured nearby.

Police did not elaborate on how or when the couple was killed. Reporters received tips of a massive police presence in the area at 4:30 p.m., but were told to leave the area and given no info, 5News said.

It was not until 8:40 p.m. — roughly six hours after the initial call — that Arkansas State Police released the first warning that a massive manhunt was underway, the outlet noted.

The delay was blamed on how “the terrain is rugged, vegetation is thick and there is no cellphone service.”

“The location is in remote, rural Arkansas,” an ASP spokesperson told 5News. “It took time for our special agents to arrive on scene, locate witnesses, conduct interviews, and collaborate information so we released the appropriate information.”

Police issued an updated description of the suspect on Sunday and said he was last seen wearing a long-sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up rather than a tank top as initially reported.

He is described as having a medium build,...

They were originally from California by way of Montana, and had just bought a home in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.

ASP issued an updated description of the suspect, saying they “believe he was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, with sleeves rolled up, rather than a [dark] tank top as originally reported. The suspect is an unknown, white male with a medium build. He was wearing dark pants, a dark ball cap and sunglasses. The suspect had a black backpack and was wearing fingerless gloves. He was seen driving toward a park exit in a black, four-door sedan....”...”

All we first heard was something had happened at Devil’s Den and to stay away. First time I listened to local news in years last night, a reporter outside told of “something happening” and nothing more.
This morning we still get bits and pieces of info on it but nothing more.

Screams from one of the victims or one of their daughters? I sure hope the first responders didn’t “hold back” approaching until they had more backup.

I’ll be following this story. Those poor two little girls…it’s heartbreaking.

This seems like a “hit” or a ex lover situation. All very planned and performed well. I’m wondering if these people were in some witness protection. We may never hear a conclusion.

What a name for a Park, Devil’s Den.

It’s a very rugged, scenic area. I’ve gone hiking there. What a tragedy for the family. One usually thinks of cities as being where the crime is, not peaceful natural settings.

Carry everywhere you go.

Some of these remote areas are havens for meth-heads, pot growers (cartels), and other vermin to stay out of sight of police.

There’s a Sherlock Holmes quote in The Copper Beeches, “They always fill me with a certain horror. It is my belief, Watson, founded upon my experience, that the lowest and vilest alleys in London do not present a more dreadful record of sin than does the smiling and beautiful countryside.”

There’s a rather infamous Devil’s Den in Gettysburg.

Even down to covering his license plate with tape. Either he's a psycho who likes "hunting" people, or yes, this was a targeted hit.

Unfortunately, the evils of “the city” are just a “black, four-door sedan” away from anywhere.
