Throughout President Donald Trump’s political career, Rupert Murdoch has played the role of a scold and a cheerleader. He has been a target, and frequent beneficiary, of Trump’s whims. But Trump’s recent lawsuit against the Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal tests their mutually beneficial bond.
On Friday, one day after the Journal published a story alleging that Trump wrote a “bawdy” birthday letter to financier and deceased sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein, Trump sued the Journal, the two authors of the story and a raft of corporate overseers including Murdoch, whose family trust controls the Journal’s parent company and that of its corporate sibling, Fox News.
To which Murdoch told associates: “I’m 94 years old and I will not be intimidated,” according to three people familiar with his comment who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to relay a private conversation.
Trump’s complaint, the latest in a flurry of suits against media companies, was filed in U.S. District Court in Miami and represents an escalation of the president’s multipronged war on the media.
But it crosses a new Rubicon. By suing the Wall Street Journal and Murdoch, Trump is lashing out at one of his most powerful media allies, a fellow billionaire who has known him for decades and has been one of his most influential advisers outside the White House.
That makes the suit — though derided by experts as weak on its legal justification — a clear warning shot for any journalistic entity that attempts to cover the president aggressively, media lawyers say. If the owner of the Wall Street Journal and Fox News isn’t safe from Trump’s litigation, no one is.

“No one is safe”?
Wait a minute.
PDJT is the victim here.
The Post wrote a similar piece when Biden occupied the White House, when both criminal charges and civil suits were brought forth against the President and those who worked with him . . . didn’t they?
“No one is safe!”... ???
Nah. More like “No one is above the (libel) law.”
I thought the lefties were serious about paying lip service to that concept!
“though derided by experts as weak on its legal justification”
WTF?
This is a slam dunk win for POTUS.
Rupert gonna Pay Da Man!
Meanwhile, paging Mr. Bannon:

“This is an utterly baseless lawsuit that is meant to chill and punish aggressive news coverage...”
No, it is meant to chill the lying and biased “reporting” that goes on 100% against non-liberals/commies.
I feel safe except that I posted 100 videos of Biden falling down the stairs.
That’s right WP. Your not safe.
‘No one is above the law. IF the WSJ did nothing wrong, they have nothing to fear.’
Wasn’t that your old talking point Alt Leftists?
Rupert is long time retired.
His leftist sons now run the operation.
He says he won’t be intimidated, but he could lose a lot of money. Someone needs to remind his sons that his “Fox” Empire is not as safe as they think, and if they keep putting their political needs ahead of their business needs, then they will soon lose it all.
My first thought when I first read the title, was that they are making it look like Pres. Trump is the one who said, “No one is safe.” Then they proceed to increase the rivalry and put Trump down.
Rupert is long time retired.
If Rupert is retired, why is he the one being sued? At least, the article quotes him as saying, "I will not be intimidated,", which seems to imply he is named in the suit.
I referenced this before but it bears repeating.
After Deepak Chopra was slandered by Murdoch’s Weekly Standard saying he hired a prostitute several times, he took them to court. Article by writer Matt Labash. The San Francisco woman recanted and admitted she was paid to lie and she was never with Chopra. He won a $35 Million settlement. 1997.
As part of the revenge (which Chopra admitted went against his usual love thy neighbor mystical stance) he forced Murdoch to place a one page ad admitting to the total lies, in every one of the Murdoch magazines and papers at that time. Including unrelated subject ones.
WaPo deflection from their role in the coup against PDJT.
In regards to the story there is no Murdock involved so he is just as safe as ever.
The warning was sent to Israel/Saudi Arabia and/or whoever pays for these campaigns, for that is what this is, its not a “story”, to be run.
Its media manipulation used as a weapon by foreign adversaries.
wapos thinks people should be safe to defame Trump
those nameless experts again
No one is safe from legal action.. …. You lie and defame folks you might not like what happens. Pretty simple.
