I had a great uncle who had been a cavalryman in the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the late 1800s. He emigrated to the US and joined the US Cavalry, and rode into Mexico for Pershing's expedition after Pancho Villa. He bought a small farm in western PA and then sent for his little brother (my grandfather) who immigrated as a teen, went into the coalmines and begat my family.

So in a small, roundabout way, my family was brought to the US by Army horses :-)

[[One of the school articles tells the boys not to wear spurs to the school dances. They catch in dresses. ]]

And all the boys said “dang, they’re onto us”

If we have to cut, and things need to be cut, I will accept that because things must be cut.

But I will be damned if I will willingly accept the elimination of THIS ceremony, yet continue to see taxpayer money allocated to abortions, sex change operations, homosexual advocacy, the Department of Education, Welfare stupidity and waste, or any other leftist crap.

"Should maybe make ceremonial duties as a peacetime side gig for a few of special forces so they and their steeds are able to be of use if needed in war."

Also, Army veterinarians need to maintain proficiency in horse anatomy/patholgy as they can be assigned/attached to Special Forces detachments who frequently work with indigenous groups who may be particularly reliant on horse transportation.

“We stopped using Cavalry over 100 years ago.”

My maternal Grandfather was in the cavalry.

It is fluffery.

If you dislike the term, replace it in your reading with “unconscionable waste of public funds”, or “pointless waste of human effort and resources”.

It’s my opinion, and any of those terms will reflect my OPINION on the subject.

Okay. That is good to know. I think that is important. If the Army is maintaining horses so they can be used in parades and changes of command, things like that, I support cutting it.

I do not support cutting it for funeral ceremonies. My father spent his life in the service of his country, and the respect and gratitude the nation showed in rendering this ceremony filled our hearts with gratitude towards our nation.

We have to cut a lot of things, but I am glad to hear the ceremonies at San Antonio and Arlington will be maintained.

They spend more than that in Ukraine....

Trump is just the current occupant of America, Inc., and has taken Biden’s obligations and is maintaining the policies, repackaged as MAGA.

The US/D is failing on so many levels.

Mine was at Ft. Polk. My Aunt has a picture of him and his squad on their mounts with campaign hats and leggings.

“EMP’s don’t affect a horse.”

There are still some wartime situations where horses and mules can’t be beaten by man or machine (e.g., mountain warfare).

The military will still use horses and mules for combat operations and training, especially for mountain operations.

That was probably a far too short question about will the Marines still use horses and mules, like the army, they probably will.

There are too many people who think wars are going to be fought by people behind consoles pushing buttons.

They don’t have the depth of understanding to know that humans will always have to be on the scene to fight wars in places with mud up to the knees in mountainous terrain.
