ICE memo reveals Trump's plan to scrap bond hearings to keep millions of illegal migrants locked up

ICE memo reveals Trump's 'radical' plan to keep millions of illegal migrants locked up amid fears detention numbers will 'explode'

Millions of migrants who entered the United States illegally will be forced to remain behind bars while their deportation proceedings continue for months or even years under a new Trump administration policy.

The acting director for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Todd M. Lyons, told agents in a July 8 memo that migrants will no longer be eligible for a bond hearing and should be detained 'for the duration of their removal proceedings.'

Lyons said the Department of Homeland Security and Justice Department 'revisited its legal position on detention and release authorities' and determined that migrants 'may not be released from ICE custody.'

The move, first revealed by The Washington Post, reverses legal standards governing migrant detention that have been held for decades and will boost the Trump administration's deportation blitz.

Tom Jawetz, a former homeland security official in the Biden administration, called it 'a radical departure that could explode the detention population.'

In the past, those who were marked for deportation have been able to request a bond hearing before a judge. If the judge granted the migrant a bond, he or she could be released into society as their deportation proceedings continued in the courts.

As of last year, the majority of the 7.6 million migrants on ICE's docket were released, the agency's annual report revealed.

But under the new guidance, those migrants will be forced to remain in detention centers, where the agency is currently holding about 56,000 migrants each day.

The capacity, though, is expected to nearly double under the recently-passed Big Beautiful Bill, which allocates $45 billion over the next four years to lock up migrants for civil deportation proceedings.

“Who is going to do all the grunt work they were doing?”

The same ones who were doing it before Biden let them in.

By the way, did you at least ask for your favorite flavor when you drank the Kool-Aid?

Americans will work for decent wages. The fact you asked that question means you don’t understand basic economics.

They are literally going to make it impossible for these incompetent weaklings to actually deport these scumbags, aren’t they?

But who is responsible for keeping our boundaries safe
from illegals entering? So far that hasn't been done in
the last few years. Until we secure our borders and
remove all the illegals then things aren't going to change
that much. JMO Have a good'en,

Let illegals out on bond (as the bidenites did) and they’re in the wind.
Like catching, herding cats, simple as. Everyone knows this.

Of course things change. Every illegal deported puts upward pressure on wages and increases the motivation for Americans to work.

I once reported a peep hole, whittled from the inside, on a container in a ship’s cargo hold. Nothing came of it. But, I got used to reporting things up the ladder and nothing came of it.

The ship was going to LA

There are millions of legal immigrants/ green card holders doing farm work, factory work and other grunt work. Though many were illegal aliens and visa overstayers. They jumped though the hoops to get legal status.

It is a severe misconception to think that our farm labor is all illegal immigrants. Many/most illegal immigrants are in cities, some working, some being useless by sucking down welfare and housing benefits. I would love to get these useless illegal aliens out to our farms to work. They don’t have much education to do any better.
You were a peasant in Guatemala so be a peasant here on our farms.

With the democrat organized crime cartel and their terrorist front groups organizing ways to shield and hide illegal aliens, all illegals are a flight risk. And how many times do we hear they FINALLy get one in custody and hear they have a deportation order from a decade ago or sneaked back in.

didn’t trump expand immigration judges with military jag officers? Thus more swift justice and no need for bonds?

So the 30-60 million illegals will take centuries to deport?
