It’s not a bad thing to dual source our food. What we don’t produce in the tomato market can be made up in more lucrative crops. And then we’re not stuck with all the welfare bills for the workers on our side of the border.
“Most supermarkets only have Mexican tomatoes. You might have to go to a farmer’s market to get something local.“
Tomatoes from Oregon are excellent, so are strawberries, raspberries, loganberries, blackberries and blueberries.
I used to eat too many of them all summer long working in the receiving areas when the trucks hauled them in. But when the crap from Mexico started coming in, it undercut the farmers here and they lost their markets.
Stuff from California and Mexico sucks in comparison!
Oliver Wendell Douglas couldn’t grow tomatoes or anything else.
Just dang.... I’ve got more tomatoes than you could shake a stick at.
For sauce, I just cut out the cores on the end, cut the romas about inhalf, and then cook them down and put them through this...
Norco Tomato Press.

It's astounding how clean the skins come out and the seeds collected. Some seeds or fragments do end up in the sauce but that's probably because I run them through twice. The side chute is where the waste comes out.
For stewed tomatoes, I blanch them to loosen the skin which then just slips off, and cut them up. It can be a bit messy.
Hey, thanks.
I had read about food mills but didn’t realize they would separate the skins. Gotta get one.
"While he acknowledges that individuals can choose to eat tomatoes, Brady personally avoids them due to his preference for foods that he believes support peak performance and reduce inflammation."
Oliver should have listened to Mr Kimball.
We grew tomatoes in our driveway BEFORE Helene, and we are growing another awesome crop of delicious heirloom tomatoes in our new driveway POST-Helene. KMA, weather modifiers. :-)
Yeah...they are nightshade plants...My hub says Tom Brady won’t eat them. I am thinking of just eating them during growing season here.
I tried one like this and HATED it...
The problem is understanding Mr. Kimball.

Green Acres comedy still holds up pretty well.
“Jesus, who pissed in your Cheerios?”
Ah, getting personal. We know what that means!
You said that Brady didn’t eat Tomatoes because theupy cause inflamation when, in fact, Brady said no such thing.
“and reduce inflammation.”
He never said that.
I’d really like to find store bought tomatoes that don’t taste like cardboard.
Exactly. I confess I couldn’t grow an ingrown toe nail but my neighbor has always had a nice vegetable garden with lots of tomatoes , eggplant, zucchini.
The guy’s good at it.
I remember as a kid, even though I grew up in a large town a lot of my friends parents, especially Italian-Americans always grew their own tomatoes and made their own sauce.
Do you have a driveway or porch? Somewhere to put a twenty-gallon fabric Smart Pot or an Earth Box? I have THIRTY Harrow tomatoes rocking a Smart Pot AND a pair of twelve foot tall Mega Marv tomato plants in an Earth Box...both in my driveway.
Generally speaking, you need a twenty-gallon pot to grow a healthy tomato plant. It drives me NUTS when I see ‘garden centers’ selling large tomato plants in too-small pots to gullible home gardeners...damned idiots.
17% increase in the price of tomatoes. Nope, no inflation here.
Tomatoes from Mexico. Buy local and you won’t pay the increase.
Math is not hard.
