With the impending expiration of the $7,500 EV tax credit, Tesla and Ford are desperately pushing potential buyers to make their purchases before the September 30 deadline. Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill has ended the EV handout, much to the dismay of Elon Musk, Ford, and others trying to sell EVs to Americans who have not embraced the technology.
Business Insider reports that the race is on for automakers to sell as many EVs as possible before the $7,500 tax credit, a crucial incentive for buyers, comes to an end on September 30. President Donald Trump’s recently passed Big Beautiful Bill is set to eliminate this subsidy, which has played a significant role in making EVs more attractive to consumers.
In response to the looming deadline, Tesla and Ford are taking proactive measures to capitalize on the last-minute surge in demand. Tesla’s website prominently features a banner warning potential buyers about the expiring tax credit and urging them to take delivery by the end of September. Elon Musk’s EV giant is also reportedly sending out emails to would-be customers, emphasizing the importance of completing their purchases before the deadline to qualify for the $7,500 discount.

“Why would anyone buy an EV is beyond me.”
Saving $10,000 to $20,000 and hundreds of hours on fuel and oil changes.
I used to have a comic book in which Wonder Warthog had a "Fast Ass Sumbichi" motorcycle.
Just marking down your statement for posterity.
We can review how your "prediction" holds up in early 2026.
I'm sure you have no idea China is on the verge of putting virtually all existing automakers in the world out of business (or at least severely damaging their sales). Literally the only way to prevent that from happening is for the U.S. and Europe and every other country in the world to totally ban the sale of Chinese EVs.
Ford CEO Jim Farley recently said Chinese EV manufacturers are an "existential threat" to the entire global auto industry. You might ask the Ford CEO, "Why?" It's because Chinese EVs are of such high quality that they'd blow away literally anything Ford makes. And Ford's got some nice vehicles. So go ahead and totally ignore everything I said. But I suggest you listen to Ford CEO Jim Farley when he tells you that Chinese EVs are an "existential threat" to the entire global auto industry. That's how good Chinese EVs are.
As you can see, the Ford CEO Farley (who has at least a little knowledge about cars) has a slightly different opinion about EVs than you do when you cluelessly stated that "EVs will never be more then expensive golf carts."
So, who should we believe: The Ford CEO ... or you?
LOL.
Okay by me too. ;)
“Not a moral issue if you don’t have a prob with child labor used to mine the material for EV batteries.”
Thanks for reposting from amnesty.org. we need to know what the wackos are doing.
I can get a low mileage, 2 year old, Chevy Bolt for $18k. It would make a good ‘around town’ car for all the BS mileage. Then we’ll use the Lincoln & BMW for ‘real’ trips.
I’m thinking about buying an electric car. Actually a truck. One that can tow my 26’ camping trailer. How much does it cost to charge an electric vehicle?
AND at the same time, the colorado state EV tax credits are being reduced to a pittance because state tax revenues have fallen off a cliff, so the state can’t afford to give away any more tax revenue ... apparently among the things that first get cut in colorado are “green” things ...
EVs are still losing to ICE vehicles more than 100 years later.
The more things change, the more they remain the same.
You have literally no clue what you're talking about. Not a clue in the world. And I'll prove it right now:
Ford CEO Jim Farley recently said that Chinese EVs are an "existential threat" to the entire global auto industry.
What the Ford CEO is obviously implying is that President Trump better ensure that all Chinese EVs are totally banned from entering the U.S., otherwise Ford, Stellantis and GM sales will get absolutely CRUSHED and there would be literally NOTHING that the so-called "Big Three" could possibly do to respond. It's too late for them. Of course, you have literally no clue what I and the Ford CEO are talking about.
As I tell others on this forum, you can totally ignore every word I said. But do yourself a favor and listen to what the Ford CEO Jim Farley has actually said about EVs.
Who knows more about EVs? Ford CEO Jim Farley? ... or you? ... or anyone else on this thread?
I can only add one more word to my post. And here it is ...
Duh.
they all know EV sales will fall off a cliff without subsidies to wealthy virtue signalers from the working class ...
I love my old electric car.
I like your "logic!"
Nothing ever changes. The world is static ... and will always remain that way. The Earth is the center of the universe.
LOL.
“I’m thinking about buying an electric car. Actually a truck. One that can tow my 26’ camping trailer. How much does it cost to charge an electric vehicle?”
A LOT of variables.
My neighbor has solar power charging. Some utilities offer cheap night time rates and some even offer free night time EV charging. Road side chargers can be as expensive as gas but some campgrounds have good rates.
The cost of the “fill up” will also depend on the capacity of the battery.
I do think that eventually battery technology will get there, and some of these EVs are stupid fast (actually a good reason to want one!).
One thing I haven't see in this thread yet so far is discussion of grid capacity. Until there is real, substantial improvement here I don't see EVs as something a majority of people will be driving.
I can hear how the board meeting went now I TOLD YOU WE’ED GET STUCK WITH THESE DAMNED THINGS.
Tesla model 2
Tesla Semi
the absolute stupidity of so many top level CEOs continues to astonish me ... pretty much anyone paying attention and who has at least a lick of common sense could see that the limited market was saturated for expensive vehicles mostly useful for making wealthy virtue signalers feel good about themselves ... and yet these fools keep investing billions as if the merry-go-round was never going to stop ... heck, Jaguar completely terminated production of ICE vehicles before they even had EVs ready to sell, as if they’re ever going to sell more than a couple dozen $200,000 pink EV Jaguars ...
“we already know the answer to the usefulness of EVs, but they are still less practical than ICE vehicles. It may be 100 years or more before they can actually compete effectively with ICE vehicles, but then, ICE vehicles are bring improved all the time, so, the question might be a moot one.”
LOL!
The best selling car in the world is an EV!
EVs are basically the ultimate throw-away car ... heck, even to scrap one costs $500-$2,000, though i suppose one could always just park a dead one in the driveway or street until it caught on fire ...
My 25 year old truck gets about 10 mpg when towing our trailer. Just trying to do some math.
Lucid is a joke, even with the massive infusion of dough from Saudi Arabia: Lucid reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $397 million and a 2024 net loss of $2.7 billion.
