Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch on Saturday doubled down in her criticism of the Pride March organizer’s decision to ban the NYPD’s Gay Officers Action League from participating in the annual event in New York City.
In a strongly worded letter to the event’s organizer, Heritage of Pride, calling the group hypocrites, Tisch demanded that it change its stance on the officers’ exclusion from the celebratory procession. The top cop slammed the new reason given for not letting the gay officers march — namely, that it would violate the event’s no-weapons policy — calling it a “PR stunt” and “Not a solution.”
“It is also the height of hypocrisy to request the security and protection of thousands of armed, uniformed police officers for The March on Sunday and then ban from that event the very officers that proudly represent your community,” Tisch said in the letter.
“In a year when LGBTQ+ rights are under siege in ways we had thought were behind us, this is the time to stand together, not to splinter,” Tisch added. “In that light, I urge you to reconsider your decision here. Regardless of the ultimate outcome.”

What about the Village People cop?
Wow. I can’t even follow this
I had a
Toddler once throw a temper tantrum. I traced it back to a particular mix of hunger, fatigue and outside annoyance. I stood by to make sure they didn’t get hurt in the fit as it fizzled out
That event made more sense to me than this
That sure is a confusing headline. At first I thought Police Commissioner Tisch was for the ban on police uniforms in the parade.
Wow. A New York official who made the right decision! The NYPD shouldn’t be involved in such stunts, except to provide security.
Then I read the excerpt. No one seems to be right here.
That was my initial read, too.
I’ve noticed a HUGE jump in incomprehensible headlines with sometimes triple and even quadruple negatives. Things get so twisted it’s impossible to figure what is going on.
Another Harvard law grad. Another crimson glittering jewel of ignorance. Zero cop expertise also. She’s an insult to every street cop.
Am I gonna be offended if I don’t see a uniformed homosexual sashaying down the boulevard in a demonstration of deviancy?
No.
What’s with her statement that LGBT rights are under siege?
There is a liberal talking point that Trump wants to take away homosexual rights. But I don’t know where that meme comes from.
Is it because of the recent Supreme Court decision about transgender surgeries on minors? Are they taking a case like that, and then making a quantum leap to say that homosexual rights overall are under attack somehow?
She has a valid point there.
But it is an easy bet that the group is required to have police presence and pay for it as required by their parade permit.
I don’t know that he’s gay. Pretty sure he’s not a cop, though.
Wear T-shirts. Not the uniform.
They actually say they believe that life altering hormone treatments and irreversible surgeries are rights of transgender children. What they actually believe is unknown. I look at it like what would they accomplish by transitioning a child from boy to girl or girl to boy and all I see is a way for them to sexually exploit those children. If they weren’t screwed up enough before they sure would be after. When you have the complications of such surgeries it becomes impossible to have enough time and skill to support the patient/victim so they would have to give up leaving a mentally disabled individual to be exploited.
I don’t understand this, is the commissioner upset that “uniformed” cops are not allowed to participate? They should not! If they are off duty who cares, but they should not be in uniform.
So much for tolerance. Cops just might not show in a timely manner next time one of them calls.
Once again, no straight parade. It is only the upside down mental freaks who have to stage ME ME ME events.
Clown world.
Exactly.
In fact, none of us will.
Which part of that “Gun Free Zone” sign is the Police Commissioner confused about?
I have to read the comments more and more to understand headlines with their anti this followed by anti that which should logically cancel the first anti but may not.
You’re all over-looking the most important aspect of this. The strongly worded letter. That always works!/s
