The Untold Reason for Mamdani’s Mayoral Win
American Thinker ^ | June 28, 2025 | Selwyn Duke

The New York City mayoral Democrat primary race results have shaken the political world.

Candidate Zohran Mamdani, described as a Marxist Muslim, was five months ago languishing in also-ran territory at one percent in the polls. A most recent poll then showed him, to pundits’ surprise, beating erstwhile-front-runner (a whole week ago) Andrew Cuomo after the eighth round of ranked-choice calculations. But it was wrong.

Mamdani won the first-round tally by more than seven points and will assuredly be the Democrat nominee.

How did this happen? There are many reasons, but the overriding one is something overlooked, something indispensable, something that is a gift: charisma.

This is where those who dislike Mamdani — and I’m one of them (I actually consider him immoral) — must be careful. People are generally loath to give those they dislike credit; they view them through tinted glasses. But studies have shown what the Throughline media-training blog stated years ago in no uncertain terms: “The Most Charismatic Candidate Always Wins.”

I suspect the hard-Left has discovered this truth, too. Why do you think suburban girl Sandy Cortez (a.k.a. AOC) was chosen to be the Justice Democrats’ candidate in 2017 via what essentially was an audition? Yes, she really was.

Style Over Substance

Now, again, multiple factors contributed to Mamdani’s victory. He went the Full Monty on socialism, promising everything from freezing rent to defunding the police to free mass transit to a $30 minimum wage to city-owned grocery stores (yeah, the Soviets had those, too). He captured fellow Asian-descent residents, left-wing whites and (mis)educated voters, and the latter two groups do just love the latest shiny “progressive” thing.

It’s also true that only about 20 percent of eligible voters cast ballots. This means that the ones who did were, inordinately, those passionate about politics — and few were passionate about...

Long before his name came into the news——
(and with these overall US figures imagine what it’s like in major Dem cities now.)

A Cato Institute/YouGov survey found 62% of Americans aged 18-29 have a favorable view of socialism.
A Gallup poll in 2018 showed 51% of Americans aged 18-29 having a positive view of socialism, compared to 45% for capitalism.
In contrast, older generations tend to favor capitalism more than socialism——A Pew Research Center study found that 55% of Americans had a negative impression of socialism.

Why are people not accepting they could have run a slab of bacon against Cuomo and the slab would now be the nominee? Cuomo was very weak and, once again, the winner is made to appear “heaven sent”!!

Oldest political strategy known to man and the New Yorkers are falling for it.

I have had the displeasure of having to endure +53 years of armed forces co-workers that have this “gift of B/S”, masters at manipulating people and facts with just such awesome believability and draw that it’s hard to not join his “Jim Jones cult” of a social sphere. Exuding unbridled confidence that every word is the truth straight from God’s own mouth and you must buy in or you’re the fool. Unspoken gaslighting on a thermonuclear scale if you dare glance away.

Ever since the rise of television and hence the decadent Kennedys, this has been the case—style over substance. Back in the 60s, the majority Protestant since its founding America was almost as shocked at the idea of a Catholic president as today's voters are at the thought of a muslim mayor of the largest financial center in the world. Which is to say, only the minority of people who actually see reality in any detail.

The two situations, however, are fundamentally different. Catholicism and Protestantism are both Christian belief systems. But Islam and marxism are diametrically opposed to both Christianity and our Constitution.

I can honestly say that I do not care at all what happens to New York City and/or New York State.
They elect in these idiots. They deserve the outcome.

When you run a slick young snake charmer against a tired pathetic fossil the young person is going to win every day. This has been proven time and again in Congressional races like AOC, Ro Kahanna, etc. Hilary and Kamala represented the tired old wing of the party.

Look at the Dems who won the presidency in my lifetime: Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Clinton, Obama, Biden. All were considered young fresh faces except for Johnson (who faced old man Goldwater) and Biden (who stole the election in part because he campaigned from his pandemic basement).

Thankfully the GOP has a lot of very capable young leaders tee’d up for 2028, including the VP and numerous Senators. Because the Dems will surely nominate a younger male after the Harris and Biden debacles.

Well - there was also the NEVER (again) CUOMO !!!

Why did the democrats run him again?

They might has well have tried running Anthony WEINER again !!!

Remember, given a choice between ‘illary or 0bama - every0ne sane chose 0bama !

‘illary had already had her eight years as (co)President.

I don’t believe all New Yorkers are stupid enough to elect this human anus.
He will be defeated.
Just my opinion.
There are plenty of rich democrats who will do everything to thwart this islamist, socialist turd.
