'No dignity' in socialism: NYC Mayor Adams announces re-election bid after Mamdani wins Dem primary

Mayor Eric Adams announced his re-election campaign Thursday on the steps of New York City Hall, surrounded by supporters, union leaders and business partners, while protesters called him a "criminal" from across the park.

Adams was elected as a Democrat in 2021 but chose to run as an independent this year amid low approval ratings and his since-dropped federal corruption charges.

In Adams' absence, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo was widely expected to pick up the Democratic nomination in Tuesday's primary election, but 33-year-old self-proclaimed Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani shocked the political establishment when he declared victory.

"This is a city not of socialism," Adams said Thursday, in an apparent jab at Mamdani's radical policies, before adding, "There's no dignity in someone giving you everything for free. There's dignity in giving you a job, so you can provide for your family and the opportunities that you deserve. This is not a city of handouts. This is a city of hands up."

Right now, it looks like Mamdani vs. Adams vs. Curtis Sliwa.

Adams and Sliwa need to sit down, and soon. One of them must withdraw from the race, and support the other. Decide by looking at the polls. Or flip a coin.

But don’t split the sane vote. Don’t let a filthy Muslim communist take power.

Sliwa has no chance. Seems like Adams will be getting the support now that he’s the alternative.

Giuliani should run as an Independent. He’s old, but he might still have one term left in him. I know there was a term limit for NYC mayor but I think Bloomberg got that reversed.

Rudy Giuliani has faced enough personal humiliation during the past few years.

9/11 was nearly a quarter century ago. It's not the same NYC today as it was back then. He'd likely get fewer votes than Curtis Sliwa.

I agree. But I looked it up. When Sliwa ran against Adams in 2021, Sliwa got 28% of the vote. If Sliwa puts his ego first, he might decide that he did well enough then to stay in the race now.

🙁

Adams got the only candidate against most of NY Democratic party will consider worse than a conservative democrat like Adams. Al Sharpton even will crawl back to Adams. Think new York primary voters think they are TOO clever by half. If I was the republican in the contest, say something about Adams being the second best choice.

If there really is an unbeatable dem election machine, I don't see Adams winning this election.

He committed the unpardonable sin of agreeing with Trump on illegals --- he wanted them out out, too.

Then he looked at the polls and dropped out of the race as a democrat (unpardonable sin #2).

Adams is done, unless he gets a job on Trump's staff.
