A Lakeview family says they are in disbelief after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained 64-year-old Mandonna Kashanian, an Iranian-born woman who has lived in the United States for nearly five decades.
Kashanian was taken into custody Sunday morning in front of her home on Woodlawn Place. According to her family, she was picking figs with neighborhood children when three unmarked vehicles pulled up around 10 a.m. and officers handcuffed her without saying a word.
Her daughter, Kaitlynn Milne, said the arrest happened within 60 seconds while she and her father, Kashanian’s husband of 35 years, were inside the home, unaware.
...
Family members say Kashanian has no criminal record and has remained compliant with immigration rules. She has lived in the U.S. since the late 1970s on a student visa, which expired. Two decades ago, she was granted a stay of deportation, which allowed her to remain in the U.S. under supervision.
Kashanian is married to an American citizen and has a daughter born in the U.S. Her family is now working to obtain legal representation and says they’ve reached out to several Louisiana congressmen for help.

The only problem with all of this is the unmarked cars and the un-uniformed public servants. What they’re doing looks an awful lot like kidnapping, and it will end up with dead people ... and some of those dead people will be public servants.
In almost 50 YEARS she couldn’t have bothered to become a US citizen?
The MSM always headlines these alleged bleeding heart stories, and almost never the ones about murderer, rapists, pedophiles, drug cartels, and gang members.
I guess they’re even capable of learning.
47 years without applying for citizenship. How about she try that in North Korea or a few dozen other countries.
Those Iranian student visas showed up at our university in ‘78 and made it plain they hated us and hated being here. They didn’t have to attend class or do any work or take tests but got As. The university suddenly graded on the bell curve so the rest of us got low grades.
I keep seeing these stories and they just don’t make sense. You can get a green card if you are married to a US citizen. A marriage green card is a PERMANENT RESIDENCY green card. They don’t expire.
When she received “stay of deportation” two decades ago, how long was the stay and what was she required to do?
None of this makes sense.
I ask the question every time now-is the person a legal citizen? If the answer is no, then they should be deported. We should have been doing this 60 years ago.
It’s worse than that. You don’t need to apply for citizenship to get permanent residence. She was supposedly married to a US citizen which would allow her to get a green card. That would let her stay indefinitely.
None of this makes sense.
I think that you often have to go back to your native country as part of the citizenship application. My son in law had to, and he and my daughter followed all the steps from day one.
50 years a criminal breaking our laws! About time ice caught up with her! Was she on welfare or government programs the whole time? Make her pay it all back if so!
I absolutely agree that illegal aliens of ANY sort need to be deported. No problem there at all.
Now: plain-clothed, armed men jump out of an unmarked vehicle, grab someone off the street, handcuff that person, throw him into said unmarked vehicle and drive off. Kidnapping or ICE arrest? You decide ... and be quick about it. Especially if you’re the person being grabbed.
We the People are armed. This will end up with dead people.
47 years and she is still just treating the USA as a paycheck.
The only problem with all of this is the unmarked cars and the un-uniformed public servants. What they’re doing looks an awful lot like kidnapping, and it will end up with dead people ... and some of those dead people will be public servants.
ICE agents must identify, they do inform local as best they can.
THE MEDIA LIES AND YET AGAIN AND AGAIN, WE BELEIVE THEM.
They are wearing badges and usually have other markings, so get off the hysteria.
Agreed. And don’t forget the Mullahs’ recent threat that they will attack the U.S. with sleeper cells. After such a threat, would anyone be surprised at us kicking out every single Iranian here legally or not?
I’m not so sure.
My grandparents never went back, and I know another Ukrainian refugee family (YEARS AGO) who got their citizenship and didn’t go back.
I can’t imagine there’d be a requirement to go back in a case like Iran where her life would literally be in danger. Perhaps it depends on the circumstances.
These sobs stories are becoming tiresome.
How about a few reports as to how the rest of us are struggling trying to support ourselves, families - and all kinds of illegals who get everything for free.
Payback’s a bitch!
The only problem is the tiny volume of illegals, at a very high cost, that they are removing.
Trump needs to suspend posse comitatus and get some real deportations going.
In disbelief that laws are enforced.
